About the Role: As an Tutor at Tutor Me Education, you’ll provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring to students with special needs in their homes. You will be responsible for helping students with daily activities, offering moral support, and delivering tailored instruction based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). We are currently hiring for multiple positions across all cities in Hawthorne, CA Details: In-Person Tutoring in Hawthorne, CA Schedule: 10 hours a month, 2 times a week for 1hr & 15mins Pay range is between $25 and $35 Why Tutor Me Education? Requirements

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)
  • Experience working with students with cerebral palsy, speech delays, and significant developmental needs
  • Background in special education and individualized instruction
  • Strong knowledge of foundational literacy skills, including letter recognition, phonics, and blending
  • Experience teaching foundational math skills, including counting, number recognition, number order, comparing numbers, basic operations, and shapes
  • Familiarity with AAC devices and supporting nonverbal or minimally verbal students
  • Understanding of IEP-based instruction and collaboration with related services (OT and speech therapy)
  • Patient, nurturing, and highly structured in approach
  • Skilled in using visual supports, repetition, and hands-on/multisensory strategies
  • Comfortable conducting an academic assessment to guide lesson planning

Responsibilities

  • Conduct an initial tutor assessment to determine current academic and communication levels
  • Provide individualized instruction in foundational English Language Arts, including letter recognition, phonics, and blending
  • Support early math development, including counting, number recognition, number order, comparing numbers, basic addition/subtraction, and shapes
  • Develop and implement structured, individualized lesson plans aligned with IEP goals
  • Incorporate AAC tools to support communication and participation during sessions
  • Use visual supports, repetition, and hands-on activities to reinforce learning
  • Break tasks into small, manageable steps with frequent checks for understanding
  • Incorporate student interests (e.g., coloring) to increase engagement and motivation
  • Maintain a consistent, structured, and supportive learning environment
  • Collaborate with caregivers by providing updates on progress and strategies for continued support
  • Adjust instruction based on student responsiveness and developmental progress
