About The Position

The Bilingual Library Clerk supports student learning by conducting classes to promote the use and enjoyment of literature, assisting the librarian, and distributing various books and media. This role involves instructing students on proper library resource usage, inventorying equipment and materials, processing orders, and promoting library use through special activities. The clerk also supports teachers, students, and other personnel in identifying resource materials, participates in District meetings, answers phones, performs general clerical duties for the building and administrators, and assists with student supervision to ensure a safe and productive learning environment. Additionally, the position may involve assisting other personnel and performing other assigned duties within its scope.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Bilingual and/or Biliterate (Spanish), required.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment such as computers, copiers, laminators, telephones, scanners, paper cutters, book covering materials, step ladders, and/or rolling book carts.
  • Knowledge of library control systems.
  • Knowledge in proper use of English in both written and verbal forms, use of correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records.
  • Skill in operating standard office equipment including basic computer applications.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
  • Understand and conduct verbal and written instruction.
  • Passing score on district administered clerical test.
  • Passing score on district administered bilingual test.
  • Keyboard accuracy of at least 45 words per minute (WPM) on district administered typing test.

Responsibilities

  • Supports student learning through classes in a variety of formats to promote the use and enjoyment of literature.
  • Assists librarian in conducting classes.
  • Distributes various books and media by providing requested classroom reference materials.
  • Instructs students to educate them on the proper use of the library resources.
  • Inventories equipment and materials in library.
  • Processes orders to maintain library collection controls.
  • Promotes library use related to special holidays, seasonal activities, etc. to motivate students to use library resources.
  • Research availability of materials and media to select appropriate items.
  • Supports teachers, students, and other personnel to identify resource materials for use in classroom and/or class assignments.
  • Participate in District meetings to communicate information and gain feedback and/or direction on a variety of issues.
  • Answer phones including support for other departments, taking messages, responding to voicemails and/or forwarding calls.
  • Perform clerical duties to assist in the daily activities for the building and administrator(s).
  • Assists with supervision of students to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Assist other personnel as may be required to support them with the completion of their work activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
