This position directs and coordinates activities of the harvest department in a meat processing facility, focusing on improving the efficiency of manpower, yields, materials, and machines, either personally or through subordinate supervisors. The manager provides leadership to employees through effective communication, coaching, training, and development, and acts as a member of the management team. Key responsibilities include managing production scheduling, setting work schedules, departmental goals, and employee and production expectations. Supervisory duties encompass managing employee performance, hiring, discipline, development, resource planning, and training. The role also involves developing, monitoring, and implementing department budgets and production forecasts, as well as developing, analyzing, and presenting reports on forecasts, productivity, and safety. The manager facilitates workflow management, workforce scheduling, and employee placement to ensure facility and company goals are met or exceeded. Technical expertise is required to resolve production issues and implement corrective actions. Additionally, the position manages departmental procurement of supplies and equipment, utilizes problem-solving techniques, teamwork building strategies, process control, and continuous process improvement tools to meet or exceed key operating statistics. Planning and monitoring departmental throughput and efficiencies, along with monitoring and taking timely improvement actions to meet production quality and quantity, are also critical. The manager is responsible for implementing and maintaining safety standards as required by law and company policy, and for managing compliance with all regulatory bodies including USDA, FDA, EPA, and OSHA.
