About The Position

The Family Advocate works in NYAP’s Center for Adolescents and Families under the Family Advocacy Program. The Family Advocate works to facilitate and complete the Strengthening Families Training. Laptop equipment and mileage reimbursement provided.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field.
Bilingual in both English and Spanish required.
Current and valid Child Welfare certification preferred.
Minimum two years’ experience in case management, facilitation, and Youth/Family services.
Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license (will be making home visits in the community).
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
Must have excellent customer service and communication skills.
Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, smart phones and tablets, printers, fax machines and photocopiers as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required.
Enthusiastic self-starter.
Must have own vehicle.
Must have valid driver's license.
The ability to engender trust and create reciprocal relationships with DCFS participating agencies and case workers.
The ability to complete all necessary recordkeeping, reports, and compliance data for agency partners.
The ability to work independently and as a team member.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
The ability to mentor and supervise parents and community members.
Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Capacity to effectively work with and be respectful and sensitive to persons from various cultures, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, and racial backgrounds.
NYAP also requires all of our employees, regardless of your title/position, to hold and maintain automobile liability insurance coverage of $100,000/$300,000.

Responsibilities

Perform all work in a manner consistent with the National Youth Advocate Program’s mission, values, and philosophies.
Actively supports, represents, and extends the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Attend and successfully complete the Strengthening Families Training.
Processes Intakes.
Assist parents/caregivers to strengthen their family connection and communication.
Provide support and guidance to parents/caregivers whose youth is involved with substance abuse and other risky behaviors.
Community networking and outreach by working with different community agencies.
Completing home visits for families in the community.
Attend meetings and trainings as required by the agency.
Assist continuum staff in creating supportive and healthy programs for parents/caregivers and their families.
Provide referral services to families.
Advocate for the family/families when appropriate.
Assist in documenting all activities as required by state and federal guidelines.

Time off based on hours worked. Part-time up to 10 days off/yr. Full-time up to 22 days of per year.
