About The Position

West Central Community Action is seeking a Bilingual Family Advocate Position is based in Denison, Iowa The Bilingual Family Advocate provide support, serves as a resource, and is as a liaison between Head Start, the family, and the community. The Bilingual Family Advocate continuously recruits children and families for all Head Start Programs. The Bilingual Family Advocate will act as an interpreter for families and staff when language is a barrier and assist Spanish speaking clients through the Head Start Program. Ideal candidate must have the ability to read, speak and write in both English and Spanish. Strong and efficient computer skills required. This position must be able to lead recruitment efforts and maintain full enrollment for each assigned classroom and maintain an active waitlist for assigned area. Family Advocates are required to attend local community meetings and be knowledgeable of local community resources, they also must work and form a strong relationship with our Head Start and Early Head Start Parents while providing the parents with training and support as needed. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills are required for this position as the Family Advocate must accurately record home visits, family goals, referrals, case notes and other necessary reports and documentation. Ideal candidate must have and maintain a current valid driver's license and current valid Auto liability insurance. Associate's Degree or Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Human Services or Social Work are preferred and considered ideal for this position. A Family Development Specialist certification with 2 years of relevant experience would be considered for this position in lieu of Associate's or Bachelor's degree. If certificate is needed, candidate would need to complete within 18 months from hire. $17.00 per hour is base rate without an AA or Bachelor's degree. Rate will be based on educational level.
