About The Position

The Latino Community Development Agency has an exciting opportunity for 2 full-time Doulas to support the Safe Pregnancies / Embarazo Seguro program. Doulas provide emotional, physical, and informational support to individuals and families during pregnancy, labor, and the immediate postpartum period. The Doula will empower clients through their birth experience, offering continuous support and guidance to ensure a positive and informed birthing process. Doulas meet with clients during pregnancy to discuss their birth preferences and expectations. They also provide emotional and informational support and offer guidance on exercises and relaxation techniques. During labor, doulas provide continuous physical and emotional support for the birthing family. Doulas also help families navigate the decision-making process and may help families effectively communicate their birth wishes to their birth team.

Requirements

  • Education: Associate’s degree in a health-related field or other relevant education.
  • Experience: Strong experience working in a healthcare setting and/or knowledge of health and nutrition.
  • Skills: Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and possesses intermediate general computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field or other relevant education.
  • Certification: Doula certification and Lactation consultancy certification preferred but not required for consideration.
  • Skills: Solid word processing and data entry skills.

Responsibilities

  • Increase informed decision-making to Safe Pregnancy clients, and increase child wellness, and provide support networks
  • Home visitations to promote the benefits of a healthy pregnancy, preconceptual planning and how to decrease factors that could endanger the life of the pregnant individual and the infant, and childbirth
  • Discusses and creates birthing plans with expectant person that outline the delivery room’s environment, who will be present and whether clients want pain relievers
  • Acts as an advocate for clients to ensure medical providers adhere to their wishes
  • Visit OB patients in labor during regular working hours (to be determined upon hire)
  • Develop a postpartum follow-up plan for mother and baby at 2-weeks, 6-8-weeks and every three months for the first year
  • Attends the birth and provides continuous emotional and physical support for clients throughout labor and delivery
  • Provide education and support for feeding choices during pregnancy and immediately after delivery and all infant feeding options
  • Identify maternal depression & support as able
  • Contribute to the reduction of infant-mother mortality rates, delivery complications, and C-sections
  • Assists with navigation and tracking adherence to postpartum care, and primary care for the patient and the infant
  • Strives for a high level of accuracy and attention to detail when reviewing and entering data
  • Recruit participants for this program and other LCDA health initiatives through various community outreach strategies
