About The Position

This position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities at a senior citizens center. The ideal candidate is an organized, energetic, and compassionate professional who thrives in a fast-paced, people-focused environment. They demonstrate strong leadership and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and effectively oversee the daily operations of a senior dining center. In addition to managing the congregate meal site, this individual will also handle a small caseload for the department’s home-delivered meal program. Responsibilities include processing an assigned waitlist, conducting enrollment assessments both in person and by telephone, and completing home visits as needed. The candidate must be detail-oriented and comfortable using computers for data entry, reporting, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements. They are personable and professional, capable of interviewing clients for meal enrollment while creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. An upbeat personality and passion for engaging with seniors is essential, including coordinating and facilitating activities that enhance community and well-being. Strong supervisory skills are required to manage staff and ensure smooth service of pre-plated meals. Bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates are highly preferred to effectively serve the center’s large Spanish-speaking community.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; AND
  • Two years of experience working with clients in community services, social services, aging or health related programs; OR 
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.
  • Knowledge of office policies, practices and procedures for area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of theory, terminology, techniques and practices of gerontology and dealing with elderly clients.
  • Knowledge of the laws and regulations governing Adult Day Care Standards, Older Americans Act Programs and Community Care for the Elderly Programs.
  • Skill in the application of interviewing techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with clients and others in stressful situations.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, directs and participates in all activities at a senior citizens center to ensure quality service delivery.
  • Complies with health and safety standards to maintain a suitable environment.
  • Contacts senior citizens to provide information on available social programs such as social security and food stamps and refers to appropriate agency, if needed.
  • Processes application forms and interviews prospective participants to determine qualifications and identify needs.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports using a computer, to keep management informed on center participants and activities.
  • Oversees the work of subordinates, volunteers and food services at the center to ensure adequate quality services are provided.
  • Collects and reports monetary donations.
  • Inspects facility to ensure proper maintenance and security.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
