About The Position

To engage through outreach, screen and assist low-income individuals and families in applying for and enrolling in a variety of government benefits as well as making referrals to other support services in the community and city wide, as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required
  • Experience working with low-income populations
  • Knowledge of government benefits
  • Ability to multi-task & work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Team player
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Able to use or learn electronic databases such as Single Stop

Responsibilities

  • Conduct benefit screenings for low-income individuals and families
  • Assist clients apply for benefits from local, state and federal agencies
  • Interview clients to assess social service needs and make referrals, accordingly, including referrals to in-house, legal clinic, financial counseling, educational/workforce development and other resources as needed
  • Serve as an advocate for and liaison between clients and community organizations and/or government agencies
  • Work with clients who are seeking new housing opportunities, helping them fill out housing applications and referring them to the appropriate agencies and organizations
  • Help keep clients in their homes through assistance programs as well as eviction prevention measures
  • Maintain detailed case notes
  • Track and provide outcomes for services rendered
  • Assist with collecting and inputting all necessary data and provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports.
  • In collaboration with the Program Coordinator, work on outreach efforts to successfully engage tenants.
  • Support the coordination of on and off-site activities, visits, and workshops for residents including scheduling, securing space, transportation, food, etc.
  • Support the organizing of events and capacity-building activities to encourage community building within the MNVL complex.
  • Support community-based initiatives and represent the MNVL Resource Center at tabling events, Community Board meetings, events hosted by our elected officials and local CBO’s activities.
  • Help when needed on special projects.
  • Attend staff meetings, community meetings, case conferences, training programs and supervision meetings; participate in program evaluation and improvement
  • Work as a member of an active team and respond with flexibility to a fluid and evolving program environment
  • Assist in maintaining program office space and assist clients who visit the office.
  • In collaboration with Resource Center Team work on marketing efforts to successfully engage tenants.
