About The Position

INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY JOB SUMMARY : Communicating the following with students and their families who have limited English proficiency: students’ academic progress; classroom rules; course syllabi, school registration; issues that affect students’ learning, e.g. career plans, attendance, behavior, college preparation and homework. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: Bilingual, in-depth knowledge of the Migrant proram and policy. Requires fluency in Spanish and English; understanding of the experiences and living conditions of migrant society; ability to work with a diverse populations of students and parents. Skilled in: Basic computer programs (word processing and spreadsheets) Ability to: Maintain accurate records; flexible and willing to do a variety of jobs to meet deadlines; fluency in Spanish and excellent communications skills with speakers of both English and Spanish preferred. Experience: Experience working with migrant students and families. Education: Two years post secondary study, or an associate’s or higher degree or a passing score on a para-professional exam in reading, writing and math as required by federal law. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS : Provide Communication suppost with students and their families who have limited English proficiency: students' academic progress; classroom rules; course syllabi, school reistration; issues that affect students; learning, e.g. career plans, attendance, behavior, college preparation and homework. Work with teachers, principals, students, and patrons to support student learning in the classroom. Translate in oral and written communication district documents, letters and instructional needs to parents, students and patrons of the Newberg School District. Provide interpreter services for staff, students and families. Make periodic home visits to ensure ongoing communication. Receive telephone calls, relay messages and act as a receptionist for the office Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment. Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrouns in English, Spanish, or other languafes related to the job. Ability to work harmoniously with others. Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.
  • The employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand.
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.
