About The Position

We are looking for a talented Benefits Specialist who has a passion for quality construction. This position provides administrative support in managing the day-to-day operations of M. J. Electric and affiliate Operating Companies’ employee benefits and leave programs. This role ensures accurate processing, responsive service, and compliance with applicable laws and internal policies.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of employee benefits programs and leave administration, including FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, COBRA, and ERISA.
  • Strong attention to detail, data entry accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to explain complex benefit information clearly and compassionately.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with HRIS systems preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Commitment to providing exceptional internal customer service.
  • Team-oriented and ability to take direction and support organizational goals.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in benefits administration or HR support, including leave of absence processing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the administration of core benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, voluntary insurance, short- and long-term disability, and retirement plans.
  • Serve as a contact for employee benefit inquiries, providing timely and accurate information with professionalism and empathy.
  • Process and track leave of absence requests – including FMLA, medical, personal and family, paid/unpaid, and disability – while ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and company policies.
  • Maintain and audit benefit and leave records in HRIS and vendor systems with accuracy; ensure data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Assist with new hire benefits enrollment, open enrollment events, changes, terminations, and employee communications.
  • Support the preparation and distribution of benefit materials, reports, and correspondence.
  • Assist with payroll approvals, QA testing, and year-end processes including rollovers and audits.
  • Collaborate with and provide benefits support to affiliate Operating Companies (OpCos) as needed.
  • Provide administrative support for wellness initiatives and employee education sessions.
