About The Position

The NC State Highway Patrol is seeking an enthusiastic team member to join our Personnel Unit as a Benefits Specialist. The Benefits Specialist is responsible for supporting and administering employee benefit programs to ensure employees understand and receive their eligible benefits.

Requirements

  • Internal State Government Posting – Only current permanent and temporary NC State Government and/or University employees or layoff candidates with the State of North Carolina eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by G.S. 126 may apply.
  • Bachelor’s degree, typically in Human Resources or related field from an appropriately accredited institution AND at least 4 years of experience in human resources with some experience in an HR lead position; OR equivalent combination or education and experience.
  • Qualified recommended applicant(s) must undergo and successfully pass: ·Criminal Background Investigation ·Drug Screening Test

Nice To Haves

  • Basic to working knowledge of State HR systems and processes.
  • Basic knowledge of federal and state laws, and State policies, procedures and practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to handle confidential matters with tact and discretion; to express ideas clearly and concisely; to exercise good judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions within area of responsibility.
  • Ability to learn and apply rules, procedures, and practices for various human resources management activities or personnel actions.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a key resource for employees, assists in benefits enrollment and life event processing, and ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Collaborates closely with HR staff, vendors, and employees to provide accurate information, resolve issues, and support the effective delivery of benefit programs.
