About The Position

Provides Benefits Specialty services to clients assigned to individual caseload.

Requirements

  • Benefits Specialist II - At least one year experience as a Benefits Specialist AND have at least 2 of the 5 following certifications: SSA SOAR certification, OAPP Benefits Specialty certification, CARE/HIPP enrollment certification, ADAP enrollment certification, Medi-CAL enrollment certification.
  • Expected to obtain program specific enrollment worker status or certification within three (3) months of being hired.
  • Expected to successfully complete the Office of AIDS Program and Policy (OAPP) Benefits Specialty Certification Training Program within three months of being hired. In addition, Specialist will successfully complete certification in CARE/HIPP and ADAP within six months of being hired, as well as any requisite training as appropriate unless otherwise indicated by program’s Director.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and keeps current a resource file/directory of information regarding available programs, services, contact persons and avenues of access in the community and current trends of knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS. Makes this resource available to new Benefit Specialist.
  • Assists with orienting new Benefits Specialists to program’s policies and procedures.
  • Able to act in a leadership capacity when assigned by Supervisor/Director.
  • Develops and submits accurate reports regarding program activities, client’s served, caseload and other information as needed.
  • Thorough knowledge of program’s reporting database and is able to generate needed reports when assigned by Supervisor/Director.
  • Utilizes independence within outside entities or client’s home when arranging for client interviews, taking into consideration safety issues and special circumstances.
  • Assigned to attend community meetings and Tasks Forces, and will represent TTC appropriately.
  • Respects the inherent dignity of each person living with HIV they serve. Services will be client driven, aiming to increase a client’s sense of empowerment and self advocacy. All HIV Benefits Specialty services will be culturally and linguistically appropriate to the target population.
  • Knowledgeable about the HIV disease process and the psychological effects of living with HIV, as well as the co-morbidities of substance abuse and mental illness and their effects on the management of the HIV illness.
