About The Position

BJC Behavioral Health is a community health center that provides and coordinates behavioral health services for more than 8,000 seriously mentally ill adults and seriously emotionally disturbed children in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. François, Iron and Washington counties. As an Administrative Agent of the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH), BJC Behavioral Health serves as a major point of entry for people eligible for mental health services funded by DMH and is responsible for serving as gatekeeper to the public mental health system. The Behavioral Health Navigator is responsible for coordinating services for mental health patients. This position facilitates the linkage of the patient to a qualified mental health professional, who will evaluate and determine the needs of the patient. This position also assists patients and families to identify the various resources and services available in the local community. BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates contact and works with various caregivers & facilities to determine their capacity for placement of mental health patients.
  • Ensures that general information about care facilities and various community resources (i.e., contact information, location, number of beds, etc.) is accurate and readily available.
  • Coordinates the assignment of new patients to a qualified mental health professional.
  • Ensures that electronic medical records (EMR) and associated documentation related to the patient are accurate and kept up to date.
  • Prepares faxes, manages workflows, and performs various administrative duties.
