About The Position

A successful Behavior Health Technician should be an excellent listener with a solid understanding of what it takes to treat or manage behavior disorders. The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) is a vital member of the Behavioral Health Urgent Care team, responsible for providing direct client care, supporting front desk operations, and assisting with clinical and administrative functions. This role includes monitoring clients’ physical and emotional well-being, conducting vital signs, and ensuring a safe, therapeutic, and efficient environment for all individuals receiving services. The BHT works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to support client care, maintain accurate records, and contribute to positive client outcomes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in behavioral health
  • Experience working with substance use and/or co-occurring disorders
  • Valid driver’s license with no restrictions
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain

Nice To Haves

  • Maryland CNA license strongly preferred
  • Associate Degree in the human services and/or substance use field
  • Familiarity with medical and psychiatric terminology

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact at the front desk, welcoming and assisting clients in a professional and compassionate manner
  • Manage and monitor the waiting area, ensuring safety and appropriate client flow
  • Obtain and record vital signs for urgent care clients accurately and timely
  • Observe and monitor client behavior, identifying and responding to emerging situations
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques to support clients in crisis
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and ethical documentation, including:
  • Admissions and discharges
  • Client interactions
  • Inventories of personal belongings
  • Assist with medical records management and data collection
  • Provide clerical and administrative support to the psychiatric program
  • Support the interdisciplinary team by sharing relevant client observations
  • Build therapeutic rapport using effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills
  • Ensure compliance with all program policies, procedures, and safety protocols
  • Perform other duties as assigned
