About The Position

The Behavioral Health Administrator oversees mental health operations within the facility medical department and supervises mental health subordinate staff. Coordinates and directs mental health daily activities and long term objectives to providing mental health services to inmates/residents in compliance with policy, contractual requirements, and accreditation standards. Prepares for and manages internal and external audits to ensure compliance in all areas of company policies and procedures, contractual requirements and local, state and federal laws. Incumbent may provide clinical services to inmates/residents in accordance with credentials and within the scope of practice determined by the relevant state licensing board. The successful applicant should be able to perform ALL of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job performance requirements.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in a social science, management, healthcare or criminal justice field.
  • Five years of experience required.
  • Must possess appropriate LCSW, LPCC or LMFT in the state where practice occurs.
  • A valid driver's license is preferred, unless required by contract or applicable statute.
  • Minimum Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises subordinate staff in the performance of their duties and evaluates as prescribed by company policy. This includes, but is not limited to, training new employees, providing in-service training, mentoring, motivating staff, evaluating performance and preparing written performance appraisals, listening to concerns and effectively resolving disputes or issues, taking corrective or disciplinary action, developing work schedules, and approving leave requests. Ensures staff have required licensure, certifications and insurance as needed.
  • Oversees the department's participation in the various internal and external audits by regulatory and oversight agencies, ensures department compliance with performance indicators, staffing and reporting requirements.
  • Manages administrative responsibilities for facility mental health operations.Makes recommendations for process improvement.Contributes to the development and implementation of both long and short term policies and plans for the mental health care delivery system. Analyzes mental health care and fiscal data and advises leadership on trends and indicators.
  • Ensures mental health services are provided to inmates/residents within required timeframes.Works closely with subordinate staff by providing clear assignments and ensures full accountability for all required mental health services.Audits medical files for complete documentation and maintains absolute security and confidentiality of all patient records.
  • Conducts meetings of subordinate staff, attends scheduled staff meetings, and promotes communication and the proper flow of relevant information between administration, staff and inmates/residents.
  • Confers with clinical staff, e.g., psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health service providers, physicians, nurses, social workers to gather and provide information concerning patients' mental health needs, ensures treatment activities are well integrated, and ensures patient care follow-through occurs.
  • Consults with psychiatry, mental health, nursing, medical, educational, chaplain, security staff, and others, as applicable to gather information and understanding into the reasons for the escalation of problems behaviors and changes in mental health condition of inmates.
  • Makes regular rounds in segregation or other confined housing areas to assess inmate adjustment and mental health treatment needs.
  • Serves as a member of the institution Segregation Review panel and Special Needs Treatment Plan committee during regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Conducts mental health screenings and assessments, including the review of available records and clinical interviews with inmate/resident.
  • Provides counseling to inmates/residents by developing, implementing, and modifying individual treatment plans based on evaluation of needs and level of functioning.
  • Documents treatment and evaluation activities in the health care record for each inmate/resident seen.
  • Practices within the scope of license as determined by relevant state board rules and regulations.
