About The Position

The Behavior Support Specialist is responsible for developing and facilitating the implementation of functional behavior and inclusion plans at the Expanded Learning Program.

Requirements

Two years of experience working with youth and/or teens with focus
Experience as a school instructional Aide or Paraprofessional
Experience, education and/or training in behavior guidance and support systems
Certified in CPR and First Aid (or be certified within 30 days of hire).
Certified in Mental Health First Aide ((or be certified within 30 days of hire)
Complete YMCA child abuse prevention within 30 days of hire.
Provide proof of negative tuberculosis test.
48 semester college units required or successful completion of NCLB test/Paraprofessional or Instructional Aid.

Responsibilities

Understand and align school day's behavior support systems to the after school program.
Coach and train program leaders in the implementation of functional behavior and inclusion plans.
Provide small group and targeted support to the most significant behavior needs
Create individualized support plans based on needs
Observe program leaders and provide coaching and support in implementing effective classroom management guidelines and supports
Develop and implement positive behavior incentive programs for classrooms and whole program
Utilizes specialized behavior approaches to assist students with improving his/her communication skills; social skills; play skills; motor skills; self-help skills; school readiness skills; and self-management skills
Integrate YMCA core values in all behavior support plans
Support in the documentation of behavior logs and reports
Communicate with Site Director and School site plan to align and collaborate on student cases that need additional supports
Participates in various activities (e.g., meetings, training, etc.) to receive and/or convey information
Support additional essential job functions as assigned
