About The Position

This is an on-site position Provides support and guidance to participants in the YMCA’s Healthy Lifestyles Programs/Life-Coaching Programs. Implements standard curriculum while delivering assigned programs and ensures quality operation consistent with YMCA guidelines. Acts as a liaison and advocate for Healthy Living. Understands the Health Seeker target market and provides motivational coaching to members participating in ongoing Healthy Living programs. Requirements

  • Two years or more of college education in a related field or equivalent preferred. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
  • Certified Health/Lifestyle Coach (or equivalent)
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Working knowledge of preventative health and fitness programs and philosophy
  • Must attend and receive passing grade in YMCA of the USA training courses related to program delivery (i.e. Healthy Lifestyles Behavior Change, ACT! (Actively Changing Together Childhood Obesity) prior to class
  • Must provide proof of certification for Life Coaching or similar behavior change program certification if doing individual coaching prior to working with participants.

Nice To Haves

  • Training or degree in nutrition related field preferred
  • Community Health Worker or equivalent preferred.
  • One or more years of related experience.
  • Current state approved first aid certification.
  • Current state approved CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.
  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
  • Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
  • YMCA Healthy Lifestyles Principles certification
  • Listen First Level I and II training
  • Building Community in Small Groups training
  • Within 30 days of employment or first available training.
  • Within 90 days of employment or first available training.
  • Within 18-24 months of employment.
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Administers assigned Healthy Living Program area(s) following Association standards and guidelines.
  • Works with directors to recruit participants and deliver classes. Plans, facilitates and instructs individuals, groups and/or classes.
  • Assists with special events and seasonal wellness programs for members.
  • Assists with marketing and retention activities to create robust classes with high enrollment. May conduct outreach with local organizations and providers for program recruitment.
  • May conduct outreach with local organizations and providers for program recruitment.
  • Maintains records related to program including monitoring prospects and participants.
  • Plans, facilitates and instructs individuals, groups and/or classes.
  • Encourages member involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  • Conveys basic information on Healthy Living program areas.
  • Enrollment numbers for the classes are consistent with program standards.
  • Program targets are reached
  • Other duties as assigned.
