About The Position

The Bryan County Board of Commissioners is now accepting applications for Full Time Battalion Chief in the Department of Fire and Rescue. The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Shift Battalion Chief (24/48 Schedule): Supervises the activities of department personnel. Responds to emergency calls involving fires, emergency medical, hazardous materials, and vehicle accidents with apparatus; evaluates scene upon arrival; may direct traffic and control crowds. Participate as a member of the management team, in the development, recommendation and coordination of department programs. Supervises the implementation of pre-fire planning and other programs; ensures uniformity of operations and adherence to departmental procedures. Coordinates and implements the training activities of assigned personnel. May supervise annual hose and apparatus tests; keeps a variety of activity records and prepares reports. Observes and follows all county fire codes, ordinances and fire laws and regulations of the state in order to protect life and property; complies with all rules, orders, and instructions issued by superior officer. Interact in a professional and respectful manner with staff and the general public. Attends meetings, seminars, and training sessions as required to remain knowledgeable of departmental and county operations, to promote improved job performance, and to stay current with medical and rescue techniques. Completes and prepares a variety of forms, logs, requests, records, reports, correspondence, and various other documents associated with daily responsibilities of this position; maintains administrative records and files as required. Performs other related duties as required including the essential duties of subordinates.

Requirements

  • IFSAC or NPQ Firefighter II (must become a Georgia Certified Firefighter within 90 days of appointment)
  • IFSAC or NPQ Fire Officer II
  • IFSAC or NPQ Instructor I
  • NREMT or Georgia EMT-B or higher
  • NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800
  • Minimum of ten years of full-time experience in a career fire department.
  • Minimum of five years of full-time experience as a company officer or above.
  • Valid Drivers License (must obtain Georgia Class F or equivalent license within 6 months)
