About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. The Food Service Assistant, also known as a Barista in this context, is responsible for a variety of duties within the medical center's food service department. This includes monitoring and recording proper food temperatures, setting up and maintaining clean and sanitized serving areas, preparing and serving food items, restocking, and cleaning and sanitizing equipment. The role also involves handling financial transactions by receiving payments for food and beverages using a computerized register. The position requires strict compliance with Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines for food service, providing outstanding customer service, and effectively communicating with both patrons and co-workers. The individual must be able to establish effective working relationships and maintain quality control standards. Depending on the location, the role may also require obtaining Serv Safe certification and Basic Life Support (BLS) within a designated timeframe.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 16 years of age
  • Ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to perform basic math
  • Possesses an understanding of food safety and sanitation processes
  • Demonstrates ability to be on feet for the majority of the day and walk far distances
  • Serv Safe may be required to obtain within a designated time frame (depending upon location of hire)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) may be required depending upon location requirements
