About The Position

The Westin Tempe is looking for a FT - Banquet Chef to join our amazing Culinary Team! A Banquet Chef takes part in servicing our guests around our beautiful Hotel and you'll be part of a great team of helpful people who are passionate about delivering exceptional service. This task is to be handled in a friendly, courteous, timely, and professional manner resulting in an extremely high level of guest satisfaction. A Banquet Chef assists in the coordination, planning and supervision of the production, plating and presentation of the food at all Banquet events in a cost effective, safe manner to meet/exceed customer expectations and attract future business.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in confined area continuously
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Fingers and hand dexterity.
  • Ability to lift up to 80lbs
  • Ability to effectively manage a large department.
  • Requires thorough knowledge of the catering and food profession in order to perform non-repetitive analytical work.
  • Requires knowledge of policies and procedures and the ability to determine course of action based on these guidelines.
  • Requires supervision/management skills.
  • Must have the ability to communicate in English.
  • Self-starting personality with an even disposition.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and manner at all times.
  • Can communicate well with guests.
  • Must be willing to “pitch-in” and help co- workers with their job duties and be a team player.
  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger and collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.
  • Basic mathematical skills and considerable skill in the use of a calculator to prepare moderately complex mathematical calculations without error.
  • Ability to stand, walk and continuously perform in the Banquet Kitchen.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, customers and patrons.

Nice To Haves

  • 4 – 5 years Kitchen Management as a Chef or Executive Chef in a Hotel and/or Resort setting preferred
  • Hospitality experience preferred
  • Ability to obtain required government licenses or certifications

Responsibilities

  • Create and determine costs for menus.
