About The Position

Graduate Assistants I at Capella University provide peer support to enhance the learner experience. Undergraduate learners serving as Graduate Assistants may be responsible for providing peer academic or co-curricular support to champion learner success that bolsters self-confidence and increases learner efficacy towards completing their program. The type of support will vary by business need. Examples of work could include: peer-led community ambassador, monitoring social/academic community platforms and discussion boards, or providing general administrative support for learner initiatives.

Requirements

  • Have completed the 2026-2027 FAFSA.
  • Have successfully completed a minimum of 2 quarters at Capella University.
  • Be continuously enrolled in a credit-bearing course within a Bachelor’s program during their appointment as a Graduate Assistant.
  • Be in and maintain good academic standing and continuous enrollment while in the role. Academic performance, including GPA and courseroom grades will be considered to determine appropriate placement.
  • Interest or experience with teaching or tutoring.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact effectively with faculty, coaches, and learners.
  • Demonstrated effective time management skills.
  • Excellent relationship-building, customer service, and problem resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail, initiative and follow-through.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Demonstrated expertise in chosen content area
  • Ability to creatively demonstrate study strategies using a wide variety of identified learning strategies.
  • Insight on necessary study skills and habits of successful students.
  • Experience working with diverse learning styles.
  • Demonstrated confidence and self-awareness.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Comfortable using technology to facilitate learning with an ability to learn and effectively utilize new technologies.
  • Minimum hardware, internet, and phone requirements (equal to learners’ computer compatibilities).

Responsibilities

  • Build an online community conducive to the spirit of learning and continuous improvement in a positive, learner-focused environment.
  • Engage learners through a variety of support models to assist learners with course content to better understand concepts and build competency in course objectives.
  • Be a proactive champion in fostering learner development to become confident and independent learners to successfully learn course material and build skills.
  • Be familiar and comfortable working with Capella resources found on Campus
  • Be a positive contributor to the overall Graduate Assistant team by attending and participating in team meetings.
  • Communicate in a timely and professional manner with supervising staff, faculty, learners, and other key constituents.
