About The Position

The Athletic Assistant Principal reports directly to the high school Building Principal. The Athletic Assistant Principal has the authority and responsibility for the general supervision of the high school extra-curricular programs.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Building Administration or related field
  • Kansas Building Level Leadership License required
  • Five years of successful experience as a teacher, administrator, or supervisor at the appropriate school level
  • Previous experience in coaching at the appropriate school level
  • Ability to perform all tasks and work the hours required
  • Daily schedule may fluctuate to accommodate deadlines
  • Attendance at meeting and in-services are required
  • Must be able to walk long distances and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a supervisor when their discretion is needed
  • Ability to perform as an effective team player
  • Ability to plan, organize, make decisions, and prioritize work to meet the daily demands of the building

Responsibilities

  • Assists District Athletic Director with scheduling of athletic events for the high school programs, as necessary
  • Collaborates with District Athletic Director and feeder middle school athletic contacts to schedule middle school athletic events that utilize high school facilities
  • Assists with development and monitoring of all appropriate budgets, as necessary
  • Responsible for conducting all annual head coach/sponsor evaluations at the high school
  • Assists building administration and/or District Athletic Director in handling personnel issues regarding coaches and sponsors
  • Conducts annual full evaluation of all levels of programs including walk through of practices and competitions
  • Reviews, screens, and interviews potential candidates for coaching openings
  • Assists building principal in monitoring high school building supplemental pay positions
  • Regularly meets and collaborates with high school administrative team regarding athletic and extracurricular programs
  • Serves as building liaison with high school booster clubs and conducts seasonal parent meetings
  • Manages all athletic events and personnel assigned to those events
  • Coordinates planning and delivery of all coaches CPR training at high school level. Coordination with District Athletic Director and Athletic Trainer is necessary.
  • Serves as high school building liaison with the Greater Wichita Athletic League, KSHSAA, KIAAA (Kansas Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association), and NIAAA (National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association).
  • Responsible for adherence to all rules and guidelines of KSHSAA, Greater Wichita Athletic League, and Wichita Public Schools
  • Responsible for scheduling all athletic facilities including summer camps
  • Responsible for communicating athletic capital outlay needs and other athletic equipment needs to the District Athletic Director
  • Responsible for ensuring that all athletic inventories are being accounted for
  • Responsible for scheduling and handling all athletic transportation needs for high school athletic and extracurricular events, working with the District Athletic Director's office
  • Utilizes social media as a means for communication and promotion of school programs and teams
  • Responsible for student athlete eligibility at the high school
  • Responsible for developing skills of high school coaches through yearly trainings
  • Responsible for enforcement and investigation of all tobacco, drug, and alcohol substance abuse policy infractions at the high school
  • Assists building counselor responsible for NCAA clearinghouse procedures
  • Supervision and attendance at high school events
  • Expanded administrative duties based on level of administrative certification
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of public school education and ability to apply them to the needs of the school
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instructional methods, school organization and administration
  • Ability to supervise others and develop effective working relationships with the staff, students, and community
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize appropriate technology including, but not limited to, office software and presentation devices
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively both verbally and in written language
  • Demonstrates ability to implement best practice and the motivation to set and achieve high performance levels
  • Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance, including active membership and participation within the KIAAA (Kansas Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association) and the NIAAA (National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association)
  • Assists the building principal and supports all stakeholders representing the school community in developing the vision, mission, and goals of the school
  • Supports the implementation of the school improvement plan
  • Supports students having access to a variety of activities that support their leadership, physical, emotional, social, and attitudinal growth
  • Promotes the success of every student and staff by ensuring management of the organization, operation, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment
  • Supports a culture of collaboration, trust, learning and high expectations for all
  • Builds and sustains partnerships with families and community partners
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary and assures due process for students when appropriate
  • Supports a safe learning environment by adhering to all crisis plans, school wide behavior plans and policies
  • Assists with additional duties as assigned
