About The Position

Mission Technologies, a division of HII, is hiring an AWS WorkSpace SME to support its customer Omni Federal. The position is hybrid , allowing work from home with on-site support at a government facility in Hanover, MD as needed. As an AWS WorkSpaces Subject Matter Expert (SME) , you will own the architecture and delivery of secure, high-performance Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) at an enterprise scale. You aren't just managing "desktops"; you are ensuring that mission-critical personnel have seamless, low-latency access to their specialized tools and sensitive data from anywhere in the world, built on a foundation of Zero Trust. Requirements

  • 2 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 0 years experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience.
  • Technical Depth: Knowledge of operations and incident response (Terraforms).
  • Infrastructure: Proficiency in managing AWS Directory Service (Managed Microsoft AD) and VPC networking.
  • Automation: Strong scripting skills (PowerShell or Python) for managing desktop fleets at scale.
  • Must possess an active US level Secret clearance with the ability to qualify for TS/SCI clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional) and DoD 8570 compliance (e.g., Security+).
  • You are a "User Advocate"—you believe a desktop that takes 3 minutes to log in is a mission failure.
  • Possess an active US level TS/SCI clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Architectural Leadership: Design and scale complex Amazon WorkSpaces and AppStream 2.0 environments across AWS Commercial and GovCloud (IL4/IL5/IL6) regions.
  • Image Management & Hardening: Create, maintain, and automate the lifecycle of "Golden Images," ensuring they are fully compliant with DoD STIGs and functional requirements.
  • Network & Identity Integration: Orchestrate the integration of WorkSpaces with Active Directory, MFA/CAC authentication, and AWS Transit Gateways for secure hybrid connectivity.
  • Performance Tuning: Optimize protocol settings (WSP/PCoIP) to ensure a high-quality user experience even in low-bandwidth or high-latency mission environments.
  • Automation-as-a-Service: Develop automation (Python, PowerShell, or Terraform) to handle provisioning, self-service portals, and cost-optimization (Auto-Stop/Auto-Resume policies).
  • Escalation Support: Serve as the Tier 3/4 point of contact for complex VDI performance issues, conducting root-cause analysis for the most persistent "ghosts in the machine."
