About The Position

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Interim Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Finance to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in full cycle accounting and a strong background in higher education finance. This role is critical in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the institution during this interim period.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with at least 5 years in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in full cycle accounting and financial management.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting processes.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software and systems, such as ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership and team management abilities.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Experience with grant management and compliance in a higher education context.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various departments and external partners.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full cycle accounting process, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as institutional policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and present financial statements, budget reports, and financial forecasts to senior leadership and the Board of Trustees.
  • Manage the annual budget process, including the development, implementation, and monitoring of the budget.
  • Provide strategic financial guidance and support to various departments and units within the college.
  • Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Collaborate with external auditors during the annual audit process and ensure timely and accurate completion of audit requirements.
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Participate in strategic planning initiatives and provide financial analysis to support decision-making.
  • Monitor cash flow, investments, and debt management to ensure the institution's financial stability.
  • Conduct financial risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate potential financial risks.
  • Oversee grant management and compliance, ensuring proper allocation and reporting of grant funds.
  • Coordinate with other administrative departments to streamline financial operations and improve overall institutional effectiveness.
