About The Position

A senior strategic leader responsible for directing the organization’s budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to ensure long-term sustainability and profitability. This role translates complex data into actionable insights for executives to guide decision-making, performance management, and strategic growth. The AVP of FP&A will lead the development of financial models, analyze complex healthcare financial data, and translate insights into actionable recommendations that enhance operating performance, margin improvement, and long-term strategic growth. The position acts as a bridge between complex financial data and high-level executive decision-making, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or economics.
  • Minimum of 10 years in finance or accounting.
  • Minimum of 5 years in management with proven experience leading teams.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to present complex financial concepts to executives and the Board of Trustees.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP, FASB standards, and regulatory requirements applicable to higher education and/or not-for-profit organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and work collaboratively in team environments.
  • Annual flu vaccine (required for all Associates).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of annual operating and capital budgets, rolling forecasts, and long-term strategic plans.
  • Partner with senior leadership to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Analyze variances to projections, identifying trends, risks, and optimization opportunities.
  • Develop financial models to support strategic decision-making, including new business opportunities, pricing, and capital allocation.
  • Analyze reimbursement trends across Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers.
  • Support financial modeling for value-based care and risk-based contracts.
  • Provide insights to senior leadership to improve operational efficiency and manage departmental spending.
  • Translate complex financial data into actionable narratives for the CEO, CFO, and Board of Trustees.
  • Enhance FP&A systems and tools to improve reporting accuracy and automation.
  • Lead continuous process improvement initiatives to boost efficiency, accuracy, and service quality within Finance.
  • Manage and mentor the FP&A team, fostering a culture of analytical rigor and accountability.
  • Partner with clinical, operational, and revenue cycle leaders to enhance financial literacy and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Build strong relationships across the healthcare system to understand operational needs, align priorities, and deliver high-value financial services.
  • Oversee capital budget processes, ensuring compliance with policies.
  • Develop budget assumptions to meet financial targets and evaluate performance against projections, identifying opportunities for revenue enhancement or cost reduction.
  • Contribute financial expertise to committees and initiatives, serving as a visible thought leader and model of collaboration and innovation.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the CFO or CEO, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
