About The Position

Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer, CHOC Foundation, the Associate Vice President serves as a key member of the Foundation Leadership Team and provides strategic and operational leadership across donor experience, stewardship, and high-impact fundraising events – from first engagement and initial gift to stewardship and long-term cultivation. This position provides vision, a cohesive strategy, and operational oversight for all CHOC Foundation events, including premier, large-scale, revenue-generating and mission-driven fundraising events requiring best in class production and execution. as well as enterprise-wide donor stewardship efforts. The AVP will drive operational excellence, innovation, and financial performance while aligning all fundraising events and stewardship activities with institutional goals, brand standards, and donor engagement priorities. The AVP also leads a comprehensive donor experience and stewardship strategy, including oversight of grateful family and Benefactor programs, ensuring a seamless and elevated experience across all donor touchpoints. This role will lead a high-performing team to deliver exceptional event execution, personalized donor engagement and consistent stewardship practices that position the CHOC Foundation as a charity of choice.

Requirements

  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of fund raising in a healthcare setting including capital campaign experience.
  • Enterprise Systems & Operational Mindset: Systems thinker with strong attention to detail and organizational discipline; Skilled at standardizing processes, managing logistics at scale, and ensuring operational excellence across large fundraising events.
  • Leadership & Management Capability: Proven experience leading high-performing teams, responsible for executing premier fundraising events and donor experience programs, while driving efficiencies, controlling costs and delivering measurable outcomes and ROI.
  • Must have a strong events background, preferably within healthcare, academic medicine, universities or nonprofit environments.
  • Strategic Initiative & Execution: Self-directed leader with the ability to independently evaluate emerging technologies, processes, and methodologies; Possesses the vision and discipline to translate recommendations into executable solutions.
  • Influence & Collaboration: Strong interpersonal and communication skills; Able to influence stakeholders and build trusted relationships across the Foundation, hospital leadership, donors, board members, and community partners.
  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • Advanced Analytical Capability: Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret operational, fundraising, and event data to inform strategy and performance.
  • Fundraising Systems Expertise: Working knowledge of CRM and fundraising platforms such as Raiser’s Edge NXT, Asana or Power BI, and related analytics tools.
  • Event Metrics & ROI Analysis: Experience in measuring event impact and applying insights to optimize donor engagement and revenue.
  • Innovation & Strategic Thinking: Ability to identify opportunities for growth, test new approaches, and lead strategic transformation of event programs.
  • Experience managing or scaling grateful patient/family or benefactor programs within a healthcare or nonprofit setting.
