About The Position

BMO Capital Partners ("BMOCP") is a leading provider of junior capital, including subordinated debt, mezzanine financing and minority equity capital to mid-market companies across the United States and Canada. With $2 billion in committed capital, BMOCP invests up to $20MM in companies with stable and predictable cash flows and defensible industry positions. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Chicago-based team of investment professionals. The Assistant Vice President will play a key role in working with Directors and Managing Directors to source, analyze and execute minority equity and subordinated debt investments. The day-to-day responsibilities of the Assistant Vice President will include:

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree.
  • 5-7 years of experience within Investment Banking, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Leveraged Finance, Restructuring, Transaction Advisory or other relevant areas
  • Deep understanding of capital structure and working knowledge of principal investing
  • High level of proficiency in Excel and excellent financial modelling skills
  • Excellent command of professional English, both spoken and written.
  • Ability to work independently on a number of concurrent transactions with limited direction
  • Ability to navigate between industries with a deep understanding of the financing needs of private companies
  • Experience working in a multiple member deal team context
  • Proactive attitude, mature, deep sense of ownership and initiative.

Nice To Haves

  • CFA, CPA, CA, CBV designation or MBA
  • Experience in conducting due diligence.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in evaluating direct minority equity and subordinated debt investments
  • Contribute to the planning and completion of due diligence
  • Own financial modelling, including building and sensitizing LBO models
  • Draft investment committee memos and materials
  • Assist in legal documentation negotiation and review
  • Monitor existing portfolio companies and prepare quarterly valuations
  • Build relationships with Private Equity, Independent Sponsor, Family Office, Growth Equity and Venture Capital Firms
  • Collaborate with colleagues across BMO Financial Group, including Commercial Banking and Capital Markets, in the U.S. and Canada
  • Monitor investment trends, develop investment theses and pitch on potential investment ideas
  • Assist in special projects as required.
