About The Position

BMO Capital Partners ("BMOCP") is a leading provider of junior capital, including subordinated debt, mezzanine financing and minority equity capital to mid-market companies across the United States and Canada. With $2 billion in committed capital, BMOCP invests up to $20MM in companies with stable and predictable cash flows and defensible industry positions. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Chicago-based team of investment professionals. The Assistant Vice President will play a key role in working with Directors and Managing Directors to source, analyze and execute minority equity and subordinated debt investments.

Requirements

Undergraduate degree.
5-7 years of experience within Investment Banking, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Leveraged Finance, Restructuring, Transaction Advisory or other relevant areas
Deep understanding of capital structure and working knowledge of principal investing
High level of proficiency in Excel and excellent financial modelling skills
Excellent command of professional English, both spoken and written.
Ability to work independently on a number of concurrent transactions with limited direction
Ability to navigate between industries with a deep understanding of the financing needs of private companies
Experience working in a multiple member deal team context
Proactive attitude, mature, deep sense of ownership and initiative.

Nice To Haves

CFA, CPA, CA, CBV designation or MBA
Experience in conducting due diligence.

Responsibilities

Assist in evaluating direct minority equity and subordinated debt investments
Contribute to the planning and completion of due diligence
Own financial modelling, including building and sensitizing LBO models
Draft investment committee memos and materials
Assist in legal documentation negotiation and review
Monitor existing portfolio companies and prepare quarterly valuations
Build relationships with Private Equity, Independent Sponsor, Family Office, Growth Equity and Venture Capital Firms
Collaborate with colleagues across BMO Financial Group, including Commercial Banking and Capital Markets, in the U.S. and Canada
Monitor investment trends, develop investment theses and pitch on potential investment ideas
Assist in special projects as required.
