About The Position

The AVID Site Coordinator is a certified staff member at the school level responsible for supporting and implementing the components of the AVID program at Urbana Middle School (UMS). This role involves providing leadership for the Site Team, acting as a liaison between various stakeholders, and ensuring the program aligns with the AVID College and Career Readiness Framework. The coordinator is also responsible for program certification, data collection, curriculum articulation, professional learning advocacy, student recruitment, family engagement, and coordinating college field trips.

Requirements

  • Certified staff member at UMS
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Knowledge about instructional practices, curriculum, and assessment and formally trained as an AVID site-coordinator
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience
  • Valid Illinois Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement

Responsibilities

  • Advocates for students and is committed to the philosophy of AVID, including support for equity and access for all students
  • Provides the leadership for the development and maintenance of an active Site Team
  • Acts as the liaison between the Site Team, principal, AVID counselor(s), AVID Teachers, and AVID District Director
  • Uses the AVID College and Career Readiness Framework as a lens to support students and staff
  • Oversees and is responsible for certification and data collection, including engaging the members of the Site Team in collecting evidence and providing data
  • Collaborates with different sites and grade levels to articulate the curriculum and activities of AVID
  • Advocates and provides professional learning regarding AVID methodologies for other school and district staff members
  • Creates the student recruitment plan, including collaborating with feeder schools, scheduling family information nights, conducting interviews, and distributing materials to potential AVID students
  • Organizes and coordinates family workshops and engagement opportunities throughout the year
  • Creates a relationship/communication system with the counseling team to address student needs, placement, and ongoing scheduling changes
  • Monitors and coaches tutors to sustain effective tutorials and ensures consistent tutorial practices throughout all AVID sections
  • Coordinates arrangements for college field trips
