About The Position

The Contra Costa College Automotive Services Department is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Automotive Service Technician Program. This assignment begins Fall 2026. The student population of Contra Costa College (CCC) reflects its surrounding diverse communities. CCC is a proud Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI) and serves predominantly historically disadvantaged and under-represented student groups including African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, and Latinx students. CCC is situated in a socioeconomically diverse, resilient, and culturally vibrant community. Community colleges are uniquely positioned to lead higher education in the work of social justice. Many of our students come from historically underserved and underrepresented backgrounds; students of color, students with recent immigrant histories, students from cycles of low income if not poverty, students from indigenous communities, and students from first-generation families. Requirements

  • Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.
  • Any bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience.
  • OR - Any associate degree and six years of professional experience.
  • The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment. Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master's degree.
  • Driver's License and Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications
  • Faculty teaching in our Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certified Automotive Service Technician Program are required to obtain and maintain ASE technician certification.
  • Candidates are not required to have their ASE certification to interview, but must show proof of obtaining this certification by 6/30/26 to be hired.

Responsibilities

  • advancing equitable student learning through dedicated, exemplary instruction in accordance with established course outlines
  • participating in the assessment of student learning outcomes for courses and programs; developing and implementing student learning outcomes assessment processes for courses and programs
  • collaborating in the development and revision of curriculum and in program review
  • engaging in department program improvement initiatives
  • participating in department, division, and college committees
  • participating in professional development activities, both departmental and college-wide
  • maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter area and effective teaching/ learning strategies
  • maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics
  • informing students of course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements
  • preparing and grading class assignments and examinations and informing students of their academic progress
  • maintaining attendance, scholastic, and personnel records and submitting them according to published deadlines
  • posting and holding sufficient and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy
  • participating in College's shared governance processes.
