The Automation Technical Operations Manager provides leadership and coordination for our field installation team to meet our project expectations for cost, quality and schedule. Maintain and grow the “Client for Life” concept for existing and new clients. Performs related work as required.

  • Lead team of Automation Engineers, Automation Technicians and Systems Engineers in the Commercial Automation segment to include recruiting, performance management and compensation.
  • Produce and obtain from direct reports an annual list of items which will make us more efficient. Prioritize the list and execute solutions to obtain results.
  • Provide, document, and implement the necessary tools and training required for direct reports to execute their jobs effectively.
  • Document, implement, and obtain buy-in from the team for Baker Group’s execution process.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of technical standards and technical process improvements.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of a mentorship and training program.
  • Provide sales support as needed to obtain new and retain existing clients.
  • Review estimates to identify items of concern or duplicative. Manage crew to remain within estimated cost.
  • Conduct and document one-on-one meetings with direct reports, create goals and conduct performance reviews with direct reports, aligning with the goals of the Automation Business Unit.
  • Collaborate with other BU’s as well as other Automation Technical teams, providing assisting with technical needs.
  • Partner with Automation Project Managers on work associated with controls installations.
  • Implement and enforce documented field workload detailed schedules. Collaborate, prioritize and resolve scheduling disputes with Project Managers/Engineers.
  • Responsible for assigning lead technicians to defined projects.
  • Work directly with the Sr. Operations Manager to define the structure from an execution and organization perspective.
  • Produce agendas and schedules, provide follow-up and lead scheduling and technicians.
  • Thorough involvement in reoccurring meetings and with leadership team to discuss progress on execution structure as well as employee morale and accountability.
  • Review project financials and identify areas of financial concerns. Partner with team to develop and implement action items which will help avoid or reduce financial slip impact.
  • Active involvement with the surrounding community colleges, fostering and building a pipeline for entry-level technicians.
  • Review long-term labor forecasting quarterly, based upon backlog and potential upcoming work.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ten years in the Automation industry
  • Continuous employment as an Automation Team Lead for a minimum of three (3) years

  • Valid driver’s license, with acceptable driving record
  • OSHA 30 Hour Certification
  • Must be flexible, willing to listen to all perspectives to make best decisions.
  • Patience and ability to oversee and work on multiple projects.
  • Ability to hold team members accountable for goal creation, and to conduct performance reviews, meetings and interviews.
  • Strong ability to coordinate, plan, schedule and track project implementation.,
  • Anticipate, recognize, and negotiate changes from documented scope of work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills in workflow and the documentation process.
  • Strong ability to delegate, influence and motivate others to be involved with assisting in training team and implementing ideas shared.
