About The Position

We're currently seeking candidates for the position of Automation Engineer in our Bala Cynwyd, PA Office (Philadelphia Area). The ability to accommodate approximately 25% domestic travel and site work (including overnight stays) is required for this position. Some international travel may also be required. The Automation Engineer serves as member of a collaborative project delivery team responsible for the specification, programming, testing, and operational support of automation systems for Waga Energy’s WAGABOX® units. The role supports automation related activities on all US WAGABOX® projects from FEED (Front End Engineering Design) through commissioning and ongoing operations. This role supports US WAGABOX® projects while working regularly with Waga Energy team members located in France and Canada. Associated responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Designing, analyzing, and implementing automation‑related process control systems. Performing functional analyses for automation and control logic. Defining, analyzing, and implementing automation hardware and software architecture. Managing the purchasing of automation‑related materials and services in coordination with the supply chain team. Developing, implementing, and testing PLC programs and HMI systems. Conducting equipment communication tests and validating control system interfaces. Preparing and executing Elements Important to Safety (EIS) test procedures related to automation. Preparing and updating automation‑related operating documents. Supporting manufacturing, site activities, and plant commissioning from an automation perspective. Managing acceptance of automation‑related equipment from subcontractors. Ensuring the successful “handover” of newly commissioned WAGABOX® units to the internal operations team and conducting all necessary automation related training. Supporting ongoing unit operations via technical trouble shooting and system checks as needed. Maintaining a continuous focus on safety and process optimization/improvement throughout all phases of assigned projects, making suggestions, and taking necessary actions as needed.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, automation engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in an automation‑focused role within gas engineering, industrial process systems, or a related industry
  • Strong understanding of industrial automation standards and industrial communication protocols.
  • Hands‑on experience: developing, programming, and troubleshooting industrial PLC systems, designing and implementing HMI/SCADA systems, integrating field devices, analyzers, and instrumentation into PLC/HMI systems, configuring and troubleshooting network switches, VLANs, and industrial Ethernet architectures, supporting FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing), preparing and executing Elements Important to Safety (EIS) test procedures, performing I/O checkout, loop testing, and system validation during commissioning, and troubleshooting automation issues during startup, including communication faults, logic errors, and instrumentation integration.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and control system architecture drawings.
  • Familiarity with process instrumentation (pressure, flow, temperature, gas analyzers) and their signal types.
  • Experience with safety PLCs, safety relays, and safety‑rated instrumentation.
  • Proficiency with: SIEMENS TIA Portal, PCVUE or similar SCADA/HMI platforms, and AutoCAD/DraftSight for reviewing control panel drawings and wiring diagrams,
  • Strong Excel skills for data analysis, trending, and documentation.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively build and maintain coworker, client and vendor/subcontractor relationships.
  • Comfortable working in industrial environments such as gas processing, chemical plants, or energy facilities.
