This internship is designed to refine your diagnostic skills and rehabilitative techniques under the supervision of licensed Audiologists. You won’t just be "shadowing"—you’ll be a vital part of the patient care team, consisting of a diverse caseload ranging from routine hearing tests to complex vestibular and cochlear implant evaluations.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program and eligible for the 4th-year externship.
  • Eligible for a student/provisional audiology license in the state of practice.
  • A strong foundation in the "Cross-Check Principle" and a desire to work in a medically-driven model.
  • High emotional intelligence, the ability to pivot quickly in a busy clinic, and a "team-first" attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive audiologic evaluations for pediatric through geriatric populations.
  • Conduct advanced diagnostic testing including Immittance Audiometry (Tympanometry, Acoustic Reflexes) and Otoacoustic Emissions (OAEs).
  • Administer and interpret Vestibular Evaluations (VNG/ENG, vHIT, VEMP) to assist ENT physicians in diagnosing balance disorders.
  • Perform Electrophysiological testing (ABR/ASSR) as needed for site-of-lesion or threshold seeking.
  • Conduct hearing aid consultations, including patient lifestyle assessments and expectation setting.
  • Perform fittings, programming, and troubleshooting for major hearing aid manufacturers (e.g., Phonak, Oticon, Resound).
  • Utilize Real Ear Measures (REM) and speech-in-noise testing to ensure verified, evidence-based fittings.
  • Manage earmold impressions and minor in-house repairs.
  • Assist in Cochlear Implant (CI) and Bone-Anchored Hearing Aid (BAHA) candidacy evaluations.
  • Participate in initial activations and follow-up mapping sessions.
  • Provide Tinnitus management and counseling for patients within the ENT scope.
  • Collaborate directly with Otolaryngologists to provide immediate diagnostic data for surgical or medical intervention.
  • Maintain meticulous electronic medical records (EMR) in compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations.
  • Counsel patients and families regarding test results, treatment options, and realistic outcomes.
