As an Audio Visual Support Specialist, you’ll play a vital role in supporting communication, entertainment, and learning across our parks by setting up, operating, and maintaining integrated audio-visual systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience operating audio/visual equipment, including microphones, amplifiers, projectors, and speakers, with additional experience in enterprise-class event space audio systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with commonly used streaming and video conferencing technologies required.
  • Working knowledge of current AV technologies and systems, including design, setup, and maintenance of voice and media transmission equipment. Demonstrated ability to configure and deploy portable AV systems tailored to diverse event sizes, ensuring optimal performance and audience engagement for groups ranging from 20 to 2,000 participants.
  • Ability to perform cable connections and wirings accurately to ensure safety.
  • Ability to positively relate to guests, donors, vendors and other contacts to answer questions and provide information.
  • Ability to effectively engage non-technical users on a routine basis required
  • Able to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests and upholding the guest service standards required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing is required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays required.
  • Ability to plan and organize work in an efficient and cost-effective manner without direct supervision is required.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with all team members and contacts regarding company business required.
  • Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including but not limited to safety protocols required.
  • Possession of a valid state issued motor vehicle operator’s license and a good driving record required.
  • Ability to adhere to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium’s drug-free workplace policy including but not limited to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and follow-up treatment required.
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree in audiovisual engineering or related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work with group sales and other internal teams, as well as directly with customers, to ensure smooth and timely setup and operation of audio/visual equipment for events and other related activities.
  • Provides courteous and professional support to clients and guests during events, responding promptly to AV-related issues or requests.
  • Collaborates with seasonal staff to provide technical support during events, ensuring seamless AV setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensures quality performance of audio/visual components in various on-site facilities.
  • Quickly assess specific client needs, identify and implement the required audio/video equipment.
  • Configure and operate audio/visual components such as digital sound boards, microphones, etc.
  • Maintains, inspects, and troubleshoots AV equipment to ensure functionality and safety; assists with inventory tracking and reporting of equipment usage or damage.
  • Adapts AV setups to a variety of venue types and environmental conditions across the zoo, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
  • Follows safety protocols and organizational guidelines for AV setups, including cable management and power usage.
  • Complete setup checklists, incident reports, and post-event evaluations to support continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Stays current with AV technology trends and participates in training to enhance technical skills and service quality.
  • Demonstrates the ability to remain focused and effective in fast-paced, high-pressure environments, maintaining composure and delivering quality results under stress.
  • Work weekend shifts plus additional weekday hours in addition to working flexible evening hours
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
