About The Position

The Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA), founded in 1891, is a nonprofit organization whose objective is to "promote, influence, and assist in financing the varsity athletic programs of the midshipmen of the United States Naval Academy" in accordance with the policy of the Superintendent of the Academy. Through an intercollegiate athletics program that is one of the largest in the country, every midshipman is afforded the opportunity to compete in athletics at the Division I level. The emphasis on physical fitness is borne out in the first line of the mission of the U.S. Naval Academy: To develop midshipmen morally, mentally and physically. The Naval Academy Athletic Association is accepting applications for a Football Certified Athletic Trainer. This position is a 12-month appointment starting June 1, 2026. Sport assignments will be Football.

Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Athletic Training required.
  • Board of Certification (BOC) Certified and in good standing is required.
  • Current or immediate eligibility for Maryland State licensure is required.
  • Follows the Board of Certification (BOC) Standards of Professional Practice, NATA Code of Ethics, and the State Practice Act
  • Tasks associated with being a Certified Athletic Trainer.
  • Ability to perform standard acts of utilizing a computer.
  • Utilization of Electronic Medical Records.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.
  • Must be eligible to work on a military installation, including a willingness to submit to a background screen.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment or supplies, often up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Capability to render or assist with life threatening injuries as necessary.
  • Physical stamina to work long hours, often outdoors, or in variable conditions.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, or crouching to assess and treat athletes.
  • Manual dexterity to apply tape, braces, or other treatments.
  • Ability to perform physical demonstrations such as stretching or therapeutic exercises.
  • Quick reflexes and mobility to respond to an on-field injury.
  • Acute vision and hearing to observe athletes and communicate effectively.
  • Capacity to travel or move between locations if covering multiple teams or events.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer 1-3 years of post-graduate experience at the collegiate or professional level specifically with football.

Responsibilities

  • Practicing sports medicine care to all student athletes as needed
  • Daily operation and maintenance of the sports medicine facilities
  • Daily practice coverage and travel with the assigned team
  • Perform administrative duties
  • Facilitating day-to-day operations of a training room.
  • Maintains proper inventory and usage of supplies.
  • Maintains equipment and ensures that modalities are in proper working order.
  • Assesses, rehabilitates, and prevents student-athlete injuries in coordination with a team physician or medical professional on the care team.
  • Provides injury reports to assigned coaches, supervisor, and team physician as directed by the supervisor.
  • Consults with the team physician and other medical professionals within a care team to assess a student-athletes status for competition due to injury.
  • Maintains a respectful working relationship with all health professionals involved with the care of the student-athletes.
  • Maintains health/injury records on student-athletes associated with your assigned sport coverage.
  • Administers appropriate first aid and other medical care as deemed necessary to fulfill one's duties.
  • Maintains requirements to retain one's Board Certification and Licensure.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.
  • Mentorship of the Athletic Training Intern(s) reporting to an assigned facility or area.
  • Serves as a staff member of a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) -sanctioned athletics program, and understands that NCAA rules and regulations must be followed and strictly adhered to. Maintains an understanding and awareness of applicable NCAA rules via annual compliance briefs to staff, the NCAA Manual, copies of which are maintained in the Compliance Office, regular compliance item emails generated by the Compliance Office, and the NCAA official website (ncaapublications.com – Div I Manual). Immediately notifies the Compliance Office if a potential violation of NCAA rules is observed. Understands that non-compliance with NCAA rules and regulations may be grounds for termination of employment.
