The Austin Municipal Court is the judicial branch of local government, the City of Austin. The court decides the lowest level criminal offenses in the state of Texas, including traffic, city ordinance, juvenile, and disabled parking. Court services are handled both onsite and online, or by telephone, email, and mail. Job Description: Assistant Manager, Court Operations Purpose: Working under general direction of a Division Manager, this position is responsible for assisting with the operations of the assigned court division and acts as the Division Manager in that person’s absence.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of project management.
  • Knowledge of City practices, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of fiscal planning and budget preparation.
  • Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and methods.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in using computers and related software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.
  • Ability to plan and present effective programs.
  • Ability to stay abreast of court trends.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
  • Ability to assess information and summarize findings.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and effectively communicate status of assignments, projects.
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice or a related field plus three (3) years of experience in a related field, two (2) of which were in a supervisory capacity.
  • Experience may substitute for Education up to the maximum of four (4) years.
  • May require a valid operator's license and the use of a personal vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working for a large court, municipality, other governmental agency, or in a legal setting.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Clerk certification through Texas Court Clerks Association or the willingness to obtain introductory level within 24 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in directing court operations.
  • Researches, develops and recommends a variety of programs, projects, and activities.
  • Collaborates with other divisions to improve existing services.
  • Assists in the development, documentation, maintenance, and compliance of division operating policies and procedures.
  • Researches, analyzes, documents, defines, and coordinates division performance measures and other data for trends, relevance, and accuracy.
  • Makes presentations.
  • Advises staff and/or public on policies, procedures and issues.
  • Conducts investigations of complaints and prepares reports and/or recommendations.
  • Prepares administrative procedures, performance reports, forms and technical documents.
  • Develops and/or delivers training.
  • Participates in the development and preparation of the budget, business plans, and forecasts.
  • Assists in writing and monitoring contracts and expenditures.
  • Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling and recommendation for dismissal.
