Position Overview: As an Assortment Planner at The Home Depot Canada, you serve as a critical business partner and trusted advisor to our Merchandising Team. You aren't just running reports; you are translating raw data into the strategic insights that determine which products we carry, how we price them, and how we win in a competitive market. In this role, you provide ongoing, high-impact financial and assortment analysis. You will lead Product Line Reviews (PLRs) and Continuous Business Reviews (CBRs), acting as a subject matter expert who possesses a deep curiosity for your assigned category. You will bridge the gap between merchandising strategy and operational execution, collaborating with cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure our customers always find the right product at the right value.

  • On-Site – 5 days a week. ( 1 Concorde Gate, North York)
  • Occasional work at Innovation Centre and Store Locations.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Assortment & Financial Planning
  • Assortment Strategy: Craft strategic category and assortment plans that align with overall business goals that is executed through Product Line Reviews (PLRs) and other projects.
  • Merchant Advisory: Advise Merchants on the ideal product assortments to maximize store and online performance.
  • Effective Communication: Develop executive-level presentations that summarize analysis including historical category performance, strategic rationale underpinning assortment decisions and expected financial impact. Report out to all levels of management.
  • Advanced Analytics & Performance Reporting
  • Actionable Insights: Turn raw performance data into high-quality financial reporting and effectively communicate "actionable recommendations". Typical analysis will include the following for both Store and Online: a) marketplace and macroeconomic trends impacting the category including competitive assessment, b) vendor portfolio strengths and weaknesses including private brand, c) line structure, d) store clustering, e) customer and store feedback, f) identifying key product attributes and g) regional performance.
  • Decision Support: Advise Merchants on specific item selection by explaining why products should be added or dropped based on data.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Act as the expert for a specific category, obsessing over trends and opportunities within that department.
  • Performance Tracking: Utilize tools like Excel and Tableau to visualize data and explain complex results to stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: Accountable for accuracy, thoroughness, thought process, timeliness and viability of recommendations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Stakeholder Navigation: Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure flawless execution.
  • Vendor Relationships: Work directly with vendors to support Merchant assortment selections and negotiations that will provide exceptional value to customers.
  • Leadership & Influence: Develop leadership and strategic business skills by acting as the primary analytical business partner for the merchant team. Ability to influence peers and business partners without authority.
  • Operational Excellence & Other
  • Project Management: Manage concurrent timelines and multiple project milestones (like PLRs or CBRs) in a fast paced environment. Proactively escalate issues when delays put projects at risk.
  • Store & Field Engagement: Conduct occasional travel to stores and vendor facilities to gain first-hand product and operational knowledge.
