About The Position

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Strategic Enrollment works collaboratively with the divisional leadership team and campus leaders to admit, enroll new students to the university, improve retention, and serves as chair of the Strategic Enrollment Management committee. The AVP is an innovative and data-driven enrollment professional serving in a key leadership role responsible for developing a comprehensive system of recruitment and outreach activities that will shape the University’s recruitment and enrollment plan. The AVP is a nimble enrollment manager who creatively leverages units they oversee to maximize enrollment for Fresno State. The AVP is responsible for ensuring the plan aligns with the strategic plan of the University, the CSU Strategic Enrollment Management plan, and new Student Success Framework by using innovative recruitment technologies, leveraging multichannel social media techniques, considering the current enrollment target and competitive markets, effectively marketing and communicating the university brand, developing strategic recruitment initiatives, and using data to make informed decisions. The AVP provides leadership in planning and program development to the directors of the following departments and their staff: Admissions and University Registrar, Recruitment and Special Programs, and Financial Aid and Scholarships. The AVP is expected to utilize the principles of data-driven decision-making and is responsible for identifying, developing, and implementing strategies that yield quantifiable and measurable outcomes. This requires significant planning and management of the undergraduate recruitment and admissions funnel to ensure enrollment is within the designated targets. The AVP is responsible for collaborating closely with various divisions and departments on campus, outside of Enrollment Management, to holistically advance the university's enrollment goals. Some immediate priorities the AVP is expected to address: 1. Lead the implementation of the Fresno State and CSU Strategic Enrollment Management plans 2. Drive innovative and efficient enrollment solutions that streamline processes and improve the student experience during a time of significant budget constraints. 3. Implement strategic initiatives that strengthen the value and competitiveness of a Fresno State degree, enhancing its appeal to prospective students and families. This includes Bulldog Bound, Bulldog Bound Transfer, and LaunchPad. 4. Effectively manage both new and continuing student enrollment to meet university-wide targets and maintain a balanced enrollment profile. 5. Collaborate closely with Academic Affairs to ensure enrollment strategies are fully aligned with academic priorities, program capacity, and instructional support. 6. Address shifting in the enrollment trends, including declining first-time freshman applicants and a rising emphasis on transfer student recruitment. 7. Expand outreach to non-traditional student populations, attracting and enrolling adult learners, working professionals, and other emerging student groups.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: Recruitment and admissions funnel and current techniques for managing the process to meet enrollment targets.
  • Knowledge of national and regional trends and best practices in admissions, financial aid and scholarships, student records, graduation, and registration best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience with management and maintenance of integrated student information systems, institutional data reporting, degree audit, data analysis, data warehousing, and data security.
  • Thorough knowledge of effective supervisory principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, state and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge of program development, evaluation, and human resource management.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective leadership, motivation and performance evaluation.
  • Sound knowledge of student development theory and sensitivity to issues and needs of students from low-income, diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Computer office systems and ability to use technology and software packages (Microsoft Office Suite, Google apps).
  • Possess leadership qualities including effective motivation, supervision, delegation, planning and assessment skills.
  • Provide leadership in the organization, implementation, and evaluation of programs and activities.
  • Supervision skills with a proven ability to manage and lead a complex Student Affairs unit.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, analyze, interpret, evaluate and apply university and CSU rules, regulations and policies.
  • Conflict resolution skills with ability to analyze situations, identify feasible solutions and present recommendations in a concise, logical and systematic manner.
  • Exercise sound administrative judgment and initiative in the development of new methods and procedures and in the solution of difficult personnel problems.
  • Use technology to enhance student services and success.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity with ability to foster an inclusive workplace and promote a positive and service-oriented collegial work environment.
  • Support the mission of the CSU, University, Academic Affairs and Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
  • Develop and implement short and long-term plans and initiatives to meet established goals and advance the vision of the university.
  • Employ assessment and quality-improvement process strategies in a higher education setting.
  • Perform market research and analysis to effectively inform recruitment strategies.
  • Understand and stay current on industry standards around admissions, recruitment, and outreach.
  • Present clear and concise information both orally and in written form.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate at all levels within the campus and external communities.
  • Effectively manage organizational change and develop a cohesive team environment.
  • Utilize technology, tools, and resources to improve processes and efficiencies such as prospect management, student lifecycle recruitment, predictive analysis, and streamlining admissions processing.
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a management role successfully managing recruiting/admissions or similar types of programs.
  • Experience using technology, tools, and resources to improve processes and efficiencies such as prospect management, student lifecycle recruitment, predictive analysis, and streamlining admissions processing.
  • Experience developing and implementing recruiting and/or admission strategies and practices that result in quantifiable and measurable enrollment outcomes.
