About The Position

We seek an Associate Service Engineer to join our dedicated and talented team. This role works on a team servicing the Chicago and Indianapolis (approximately twice a week) areas, responsible for providing maintenance and hardware support for multiple data storage platforms (e.g., NetApp, Rubrik), and occasionally assisting with other IT projects. This is a home-based and field-based role that requires traveling (driving your own vehicle and/or flying) as needed to various business sites for service delivery regularly (TSP covers approved business travel expenses). Please note: As emergency maintenance in data centers can occur outside of standard business hours, this position requires the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed. TSP delivers customer support on a 24/7/365 basis. Candidates must be located in the South Chicago/North Indiana area.

Requirements

  • Must be tech-savvy and have experience with hardware troubleshooting or installation (in work experience, military experience, a gamer who has built computers, or just the "go-to" person that all your friends/family go to for technical help!
  • Education: Minimum of high school diploma or GED is required; degree in computer science, information technology, or any technical field preferred
  • Positive attitude, professional, self-motivated, and a fast learner
  • A strong sense of urgency, time management, and customer-facing skills are required
  • Must have a general understanding of Microsoft Outlook and demonstrate superb communication skills (phone/email/in-person)
  • Must be reliable, proactive, and possess the ability to take ownership of multiple engagements
  • Good job stability must be reflected on resume
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license (business mileage reimbursed), and auto insurance
  • Must be able to lift and install equipment (up to 75 pounds) into customer racks
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to data center environments is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Provide hardware support services for data storage equipment
  • Maintain equipment, including troubleshooting and following product repair action plans (disk/controller swaps, etc.)
  • Act as smart hands with direction from a support center
  • Assist with installations (unboxing, lifting, racking/stacking, installing, etc.)
  • Schedule service calls and coordinate the delivery of parts
  • Interact with IT customers, TSP technical team members, and external support organizations
  • Impact extends to customer technical representatives, including systems administrators and technical managers
  • Travel for formal and informal training and getting certified to deliver installations and higher-end activities
  • Maintain flexibility to travel outside of the coverage area when required
  • TSP provides support to our customers on a 24/7/365 basis - On-call availability (weekend and evening work are required, as are occasional holidays)
