About The Position

The Associate is responsible to apply scientific principles to product specific laboratory work and for gaining experience in the application and interpretation of the department procedures. Will perform assigned laboratory tasks and learn the application of Quality procedures to ensure compliance. Works with SAP enterprise system to gather data and follow procedures. Will be trained in various methods for testing of products, supplier materials, D&S and stability testing for DCM QC labs. Implements tasks and participates on teams. Ensures documentation and safety compliance. Interactions may include other areas such as Operations, Planning and other Quality groups. General Duties The Associate Scientist is a laboratory Microbiologist who is primarily responsible for Quality Control testing of Dehydrated Culture Media (DCM QC) against acceptance specifications. The Associate Scientist is responsible for product release and assuring documentation and procedures are followed, updated, and maintained as required by internal Quality Policies and related FDA/GMP guidelines. The Associate Scientist conducts product testing, potential complaint investigation, special quality notification investigative testing, assists in the investigation of manufacturing issues and provides data and input on technical issues and projects. Able to identify product issues and microbiological attributes as applied to various products tested. Able to work independently with minimal supervision and create ones’ own daily schedule, as well as, work within a team to support other associates with testing. Excellent in time management skills and adhering to strict fast-paced deadlines, having great organization skills. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in related field such as Microbiology required.
  • Basic knowledge in a broad range of laboratory techniques
  • History of self-motivation with a background in biological lab science
  • Experience in handling biological samples and knowledge of GMP
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills in a team environment as well as a desire to work within a team
  • Capable of readily identifying and analyzing problems
  • Have basic analytical skills and be familiar with database and statistical software
  • Having great organizational skills, using various outlets to maintain daily tasks
  • Capable of managing one’s own time and scheduling of tasks to meet rigid deadlines with minimal supervision

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years’ experience preferred
  • Preferred knowledge of the following industry regulations FDA (Food and Drug Administration), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) / QSR (Quality System Regulation), ISO (International Organization of Standardization), USDA
  • Experience in handling biological and chemical samples
  • Good aseptic technique
  • Proficient skills with Excel/Word
  • Good math skills as they pertain to dilutions, counts, product preparations and supplement adjustments

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Microbiology Quality Control testing in peptone manufacturing, raw material products, Tissue Culture Testing, Dyes & Stains testing and Final DCM testing as required.
  • The Associate Scientist is required to perform testing of various Microorganisms in a Biosafety Level I/II and BSLIII Laboratory with strict adherence to safety policies.
  • Ability to work in a clean room environment if needed and meet validation requirements associated with donning and doffing clean room garments may be required.
  • Demonstrating effective communication skills and the ability to work effectively with large multifunctional teams
  • Responsible for Quality Control Microbiology testing of media as well as preparing various medias from scratch.
  • Trained to prepare media from scratch.
  • Knowledge of Microbiology as it relates to bacteria, yeast, and fungi.
  • Basic knowledge of Microbiology as it applies to a lab setting with cleaning and safety procedures followed
  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to make independent decisions.
