About The Position

The Simmons University School of Social Work (SSW) is now accepting applications for a position as Associate Professor of Practice and Associate Director of the BSW Program. This is a non-tenure track position with primary teaching responsibilities in our on-ground BSW program. We seek candidates who are licensed practitioners with substantial clinical social work experience to teach across our curriculum. This position will be located on our campus in Boston, MA. In addition to teaching, candidates will be required to contribute to curriculum development, maintain deep connections to the social work practice community, engage in professional development and/or scholarly activities, and participate in service to the School, University, and social work profession. This position is a full-time, twelve-month academic appointment with a start date of July 1, 2026. At approximately 1500 students, the SSW offers degrees at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral levels (BSW, MSW, DSW, PhD). Our BSW Program is offered via robust on-ground and online platforms. Areas of current SSW faculty expertise include: dynamics of diversity, family and intimate partner violence, immigration, health and health policy, health disparities, aging, behavioral health, substance abuse, suicidality, child maltreatment, social policy and innovations in social work education. Simmons University School of Social Work seeks to hire an Associate Director of the BSW Program. This is a contract faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor of Practice in the undergraduate social work program, BSW. Reporting to the Director of the BSW Program, this position provides leadership and management for all programmatic and administrative aspects and service-learning components for the BSW, a program that will admit students at three entry points in the calendar year. It is a twelve-month contract appointment renewable annually based on the School’s need and faculty performance. Responsibilities include: student advisement and mentoring, teaching BSW courses and managing all programmatic and administrative aspects and service learning components. The Associate Director works closely with the BSW Program Director to ensure commensurability between the two platform options. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited program required.
  • Two years post-MSW practice experience.
  • A minimum of two years of teaching experience in social work education.
  • Must be proficient with relevant technology (e.g., Google Suite, Microsoft Office and presentation software).
  • Well organized with excellent skills in customer service and project management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with discretion in handling confidential information.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate in Social Work are preferred.
  • BSW degree is a plus.
  • Experience working with online education platforms and adult learners preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying a 7-course teaching load per academic year.
  • Collaborate with the BSW Director on BSW curriculum development, renewal and administration, and anticipate the need for new curricular development in emerging areas of practice.
  • Collaborate with the BSW Director in the implementation of, and adherence to, CSWE accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with the BSW Director on program assessment, including collecting and analyzing data and writing final reports.
  • Participate in faculty searches, interview, and make informed hiring recommendations to the Director and the Dean.
  • Support teaching excellence of BSW faculty and adjuncts through mentorship and faculty development activities.
  • Evaluate adjunct faculty performance.
  • Participate in on-campus student recruitment and admission activities, including prospective student information sessions and individual meetings as needed.
  • Manage the 3+1 accelerated program (application, admission, acceptance); review admissions applications as needed.
  • Plan and participate in new student orientation.
  • Oversee all BSW student advising in collaboration with the Practicum Operations Manager & Advisor.
  • Primary lead for addressing on-ground student concerns as needed in collaboration with other faculty and student support systems.
  • Lead regular communications with on-ground BSW students.
  • Organize student engagement opportunities.
  • Hold primary responsibility for building and sustaining BSW on-ground community culture, including implicit curriculum.
  • Teaching responsibilities are primarily in the BSW program each academic year.
  • Update and revise all program materials including the Handbook, webpage, course catalog, etc. Collaborate with the BSW Director.
  • Serves on SSW Committees, including fulfilling leadership roles as required and needed.
  • Collaborate across the SSW and the University as required and needed.
  • Follows SSW and University policies and procedures related to work engaged in on behalf of the BSW program.
  • Attend BSW core team meetings and other operations-related meetings necessary to the creation and maintenance of the program.
  • Participate in course development and build as needed and when necessary
  • Engage in program, school, and university-wide community service per requirements of full-time faculty as established by the Faculty Policy Manual and Implementation Guidelines.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
