About The Position

AAM's Early Career Rotational Program’s mission is to provide well-trained and prepared associates for key positions and leadership roles. This program offers a unique opportunity for structured growth and training. As an Early Career Rotational associate, you will be introduced to our environment and be provided an opportunity to receive learning and development opportunities and on-the-job experience during an 18-month rotational training development program. You will participate in three 6-month rotational assignments designed to enhance your knowledge and performance in your target position. Meanwhile, you will engage in networking opportunities with exposure to AAM leaders and mentors. Upon completion of your rotational program, you will have built a successful foundation to a meaningful, exciting career with AAM. Our Associate Gear Engineer – Rotational position will join the rapidly growing team of motivated gear engineers responsible for gear design and manufacturing processes for hypoid and helical gears. Upon completion of the program, the successful candidate will work in a team environment as a Gear Engineer for design or manufacturing in the automotive driveline, powertrain, and electrification spaces where projects are highly complex and original, requiring strategic direction, cross-disciplinary integration, and ingenuity of approach.

Requirements

  • Completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree within 12 months prior to June, 2026 start date, GPA 3.0 or higher
  • Completed an internship/co-op in an engineering setting, gaining hands-on experience in engineering concepts and processes
  • Experience in leadership roles (e.g. school teams, volunteerism, community)
  • Ability to be geographically mobile during and after the program
  • A passion to pursue a career in automotive /manufacturing
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for gear design within the product system from concept through full manufacturing launch in accordance with PE-PDP and program launch gate deliverables.
  • Utilizes computer aided engineering (CAE) methodologies and results to drive the design of sub-systems and components.
  • Performs component FEA, 1D model analyses, spreadsheet calculations as needed.
  • Works with cross-functional and cross-region resources in the execution of development of new gear components based on requirements and supports the integration of those new components into the organization's portfolio of products.
  • Create MPPS (Master Process Planning Sheet) for baseline capital investment of manufacturing process for both helical and hypoid gear programs.
  • Perform technical reviews for potential and awarded business with customers, suppliers and/or internal teams for feasibility and process planning as a part of the APQP process.
  • Lead, design, and ensure implementation of economical manufacturing strategies, to remain competitive in the gear manufacturing and gear box assembly markets.
