About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: The Associate Executive Director – Wellness & Branch Operations (AED) is a key senior leadership role at the downtown branch of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery. This position provides strategic and operational leadership with a heavy focus on wellness programming and healthy-living services, while also overseeing membership services, facilities/operations, staff & volunteer development, and community engagement. The AED will collaborate with the Executive Director to advance the mission of the Y: strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. They will champion wellness—creating innovative programs, partnerships, and experiences that promote health, fitness, preventive care, and inclusive access. The ideal candidate will bring a strong operations background and a passion for health promotion, member engagement and community collaboration. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Wellness & Healthy-Living Leadership Serve as the champion for the “Healthy Living / Wellness” pillar of the YMCA: develop, implement and oversee branch wellness programs (group exercise, personal training, chronic‐disease prevention, nutrition workshops, mind-body & recovery, wellness challenges). Partner with the membership team to integrate wellness offerings into the member experience and drive engagement, retention, and growth. Establish and monitor metrics (participation, retention, wellness outcomes, member satisfaction) to evaluate program success and continuously improve. Cultivate and maintain partnerships with local health providers/clinics, community agencies, and businesses to expand wellness outreach and impact. Ensure wellness equipment, facilities and spaces are safe, clean, current and configured for high-quality member experience. Branch Operations & Membership Oversee daily operations of the downtown branch: membership services, program registration, facility maintenance, equipment, aquatics (if applicable), and group programming. Develop and implement innovative membership growth and retention strategies aligned with wellness and inclusive access. Lead the membership and program teams to provide an outstanding member experience — friendly, engaged, welcoming, aligned with Y values. Monitor monthly and annual budget performance for branch operations, including wellness/program revenue, membership income, facilities costs, and expense control. Work with the Executive Director to develop annual operating plan, goals and strategic initiatives for the branch. Staff, Volunteer & Leadership Development Recruit, hire, train, coach and evaluate program directors/managers for wellness and fitness Foster a culture of continuous improvement, professional development, collaboration, inclusive practices and high-performance. Engage volunteers in wellness programming, community outreach, and branch leadership initiatives. Serve on branch leadership team; contribute to strategic decision-making, cross-department collaboration and alignment with association objectives. Community Engagement, Marketing & Fundraising Represent the downtown Y branch in the community: build relationships with civic, health, business and community leaders to raise visibility of wellness initiatives and the Y’s impact. Collaborate with marketing/communications to promote wellness programs, membership drives, events and community outreach. Support branch fundraising efforts and annual campaign in concert with the Executive Director; integrate wellness programming into philanthropy and donor relations. Facility & Risk Management Ensure branch facilities, equipment, and wellness spaces meet safety, cleanliness, accessibility and regulatory standards. Collaborate with facilities/operations team to plan for capital maintenance, refurbishment, and wellness-space optimization. Oversee risk management, incident reporting, emergency action plans, equipment inspections, and compliance with YMCA standards. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, recreation/health promotion, exercise science, nonprofit management or related field preferred. Minimum of 5 years of senior leadership or management experience in a health & wellness, fitness, recreation; YMCA or nonprofit experience preferred. Proven track record of creating, growing and managing wellness or healthy-living programs, membership services, and facility operations. Strong fiscal management skills: development and monitoring of operating budgets, revenue generation, program profit/loss oversight. Excellent leadership skills: ability to motivate, coach, develop staff and volunteers; build high-performing teams and foster inclusive culture. Experience building community partnerships, outreach, and marketing of wellness or membership services. Knowledge of current wellness/fitness trends, chronic-disease prevention, group exercise, personal training models, mind-body wellness, etc. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work flexible schedule (including evenings/weekends) as needed to oversee wellness programs, events and community engagements.
