About The Position

Under general direction, the Associate Engineer performs professional engineering work in the field and office and supervises the work of junior and assistant engineers, technicians, inspectors, surveyors and other related personnel engaged in engineering projects. The essential functions of the Associate Engineer class may vary depending on assignment and include: preparing engineering designs, drawings and specifications; preparing cost and quantity estimates for necessary labor, materials and equipment associated with construction, contractors, suppliers, installation, repair, restoration and maintenance; providing engineering support to operations staff; reviewing existing conditions and conducting studies of processes by identifying, obtaining and analyzing samples and data; analyzing and resolving problems to ensure compliance with regulatory and performance standards and specifications; supervising the preparation of detailed engineering drawings, specifications and calculations; assigning and reviewing the work of subordinate staff and consultants; determining resources necessary to complete assigned work; reviewing plans, permit applications and specifications developed by staff, consultants and contractors; verifying quantities, dimensions, safety requirements, and quality of work for engineering projects; preparing and supervising the preparation of a wide variety of technical engineering reports and other documentation; interviewing, selecting, training, monitoring, evaluating and counseling staff; preparing a variety of bid documents; reviewing and analyzing bids; and conducting meetings and making presentations. Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of verifiable professional engineering experience of which two (2) years of professional experience equivalent to the City & County of San Francisco Class 5203 Assistant Engineer or higher
  • Possession of a current Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California in Mechanical Engineering
  • Some positions may require a valid driver license
