The Associate Engineer performs professional engineering work in both field and office settings. This role involves supervising junior and assistant engineers, technicians, inspectors, surveyors, and other related personnel on engineering projects. The specific functions may vary by assignment, but generally include preparing engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates. The Associate Engineer also provides engineering support to operations staff, conducts studies, analyzes and resolves problems to ensure compliance with regulatory and performance standards, and reviews plans and specifications from staff, consultants, and contractors. A key aspect of the role is the supervision of staff, including interviewing, selecting, training, monitoring, evaluating, and counseling.
