About The Position

The Associate Director of Student Engagement and Leadership is responsible for collaboratively coordinating and executing student leadership development opportunities, first-year orientation, campus social and educational programming, and direct budget oversight of registered student organizations (e.g., Student Government Association (SGA), Campus Activities Board, and over 40 other clubs and organizations). Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Community and Engagement, the Associate Director is a vital member of campus life and contributes to the development of a vibrant co-curricular life within the University's Catholic mission through the development of campus activities that foster a campus community that is conducive to all manners of student development, including academic, social, spiritual, cultural, and physical dimensions. Attendance and participation in campus programs are expected. SCOPE: Assists with the overall supervision and operation of all aspects of the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership, which includes the following four significant areas of responsibility: Campus Programming, Student Leadership Development, New Student Orientation, and the Hagan Campus Center. The Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Leadership seek to foster a campus community conducive to all aspects of student development, including academic, social, spiritual, cultural, and physical formation. Regularly serve on a variety of campus committees and other ad-hoc committees as assigned, maintain active membership in a variety of professional organizations to stay abreast of developments and innovations in the field of Student Activities. Communicate and engage regularly with student leaders, university committees, registered student organizations, staff, administrators, families, agents, vendors, and performers. Supervises the work of at least one graduate assistant and several student employees. Advises and supports student organizations with oversight and management of programming budgets totaling $250,000.

Requirements

  • Must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University as well as show respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University.
  • Master’s Degree and a minimum of two years of student activities experience.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Advises the Campus Activities Board (including Chairpersons, Executive Board, and general student membership).
  • Coordinates the search for the Campus Activities Board Executive Committee.
  • Coordinates fall and winter retreats/training for the Campus Activities Board.
  • Supervises a Campus Activities Board budget of approximately $250K.
  • Attends weekly Campus Activities Board executive staff and general member meetings
  • Attend individual committee meetings as necessary.
  • Coordinates annual trips with the delegation to NACA regional and national conferences.
  • Advises the College Newspaper (Le Provocateur). Responsible for the production and distribution of approximately twelve issues per academic year.
  • Coordinates the search for the Editor-in-Chief, Asst: editor (s), and Business Manager(s).
  • Assists executive student staff in the recruitment of staff.
  • Attends story and production meetings and is appropriate in the absence of the faculty advisor.
  • Supervises student funding budget of approximately $12K.
  • Coordinates and oversees both the annual Family Weekend and Spring Weekend.
  • Coordinates all activities and events, ensuring an enjoyable and positive experience for families and Assumption students.
  • Selects, trains, and supervises the Family Weekend Student Chairperson(s).
  • Attend regularly scheduled planning meetings.
  • Monitors all expenditure and ensures advertising meets institutional marketing standards.
  • Works closely with the AU community in coordinating Family Weekend, Spring Weekend, 1904 Day, and other community-wide events.
  • Attend weekly SGA meetings when requested as the designee of the Assistant Dean for Community and Engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with the Assistant Director for Student Engagement and Cross-Cultural Education in coordinating and implementing annual fall and spring campus-wide student leader training programs.
  • Assists the Assistant Dean for Community and Engagement in coordinating and implementing summer and fall New Student Orientations, Summer Parent Orientation Program.
  • Supports and assists the programming and community engagement efforts of other offices, including Residential Life, Campus Ministry, Division for Student Success, the Reach Out Center, the Athletic Department, and the Cross-Cultural Center.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and monthly Campus Advisor meetings.
  • Attend professional staff training retreats and in-service training sessions to enhance professional skills and remain abreast of current trends in student activities and higher education.
  • The Associate Director pursues professional development activities to stay abreast of developments and innovations in the field of Student Activities. They also maintain membership(s) in any of the following: NACA, NASPA, ACPA, ACUI, NODA.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
