About The Position

The Associate Director of Admission is involved in all aspects of the general admission process: recruitment travel, interaction with prospective students and their families, interviewing, application review, and the selection of candidates. The Associate Director also holds responsibility for the oversight and coordination of one or more project areas, as assigned by the Dean and/or Director of Admission and depending upon specific skills and interests, and the supervision of one or more members of staff. The Associate Director position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to relate to a broad range of constituents (students, parents, alumni, high school counselors, etc.), an appreciation for and sensitivity to a variety of backgrounds and traditions from which students may come, and the ability to work well both independently and collaboratively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Five years of admission or related experience
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel, and skills with calendaring tools
  • Comfort with and ability to learn about new databases, web-based data management systems, and other reporting mechanisms
  • Comfort and experience with high levels of discretion and the handling of confidential material and information
  • Effective interpersonal and communications skills
  • Ability to relate to a broad range of constituents (students, parents, alumni, high school counselors, etc.)
  • Appreciation for and sensitivity to a variety of backgrounds and traditions from which students may come
  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to obtain and maintain PA Act 12 background checks
  • Possession of a valid U.S. Drivers’ License and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record check

Responsibilities

  • Visit high schools, attend college fairs and conferences, and interview students to recruit within a defined territory; travel portfolio includes multiple trips abroad (spread over the fall and spring) as well as a some additional local/national travel
  • Read and evaluate applications and participate in the committee process to select candidates for admission, including serving as the primary reviewer of international applications
  • Interview prospective candidates on and off-campus
  • Conduct information sessions
  • Answer admission inquiries from prospective students, parents, high school counselors, and others
  • Plan and implement various on- and off-campus programs and initiatives
  • Build and maintain relationships with high schools and community-based organizations
  • Interact and work with other campus offices/departments and College constituencies
  • Participate in strategic and long-range planning efforts, and assisting with their implementation
  • Support other day-to-day admission processes
  • Serve as liaison with the Department of Athletics, coordinating athletic recruitment in the admission process
  • Coordinate and support access and diversity initiatives
  • Supervise Admission Counselors and/or student workers
  • Oversee one or more application rounds
