About The Position

Working with a high degree of independence and under minimal direction, the Associate Director Finance and Operations will be a central position in the administrative structure for Campus Services finance team, a dynamic, cross functional intensive team supporting multiple departments in Campus Services with approximately $83 million dollars in auxiliary revenue. The associate director will have responsibility for organizing complex tasks; providing advice, and guidance regarding financial and administrative policies and procedures; preparing and distributing analytical reports; and overseeing the financial analysis and advising leadership to assure projects are managed as they were proposed. The associate director will oversee the management of business intelligence and analytics to promote and support the effective use of data by key decision makers in support of the Case Western Reserve University's strategic goals, while working with key stakeholders across the university to identify and implement business critical business intelligence capabilities. The associate director, working collaboratively with the Associate Vice President of Campus Services and other central campus services staff, is further responsible for the development and support of self-service reports, executive level dashboards and strategic reports, visual and advanced analytics, and business recommendations. The associate director will import, transform, and rationalize data from systems of record and provide transparency and insight to lead to effective decision making.

Requirements

  • 8 years related experience required. Financial analysis experience and analytics preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting financial management processes and practices, such as budgeting, cost allocations, capital, and operating expense management, preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, Advanced features of current versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required. Windows 7 or higher. Internet research abilities. Proficient with databases. Knowledge of Visio preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and support of strategic reports, metrics, and dashboards, visual and advanced analytics, and financial recommendations. Design, create, and manage strategic metrics collection and reporting processes. Lead the development and management of support tools in partnership with stakeholders. Integrate new decision support tools with existing processes, tools, and analysis. Prepare custom analytical reports and detailed analyses for the Vice President of Campus Services. Recommend, develop, and implement changes to department policies and practices based on analysis of the data. Oversee the productivity analysis for custom reports and synthesize the data into decision-making plans of action.
  • Provide support to the vice president on a wide range of assignments involving top priorities, often associated with complexities of a confidential and/or sensitive nature. Assignments may include audit and assessment of financial information and current and future college and university academic programs and other strategic initiatives. Review documents and reports and advise on strategy and offer editorial or other feedback, including potential data sources that may need to be considered.
  • Plan departmental budget needs by analyzing program plans on both a short- and long-range basis by considering past requirements and expenditures and present program plan. Perform needs assessment, make projections based on multiple items and variables, analyze budget variances, and recommend courses of action. Recommend, develop, and implement changes to department policies and practices. Exercise judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Identifies risks and responds accordingly. Provide priority setting and workflow analysis.
  • Responsible for developing pro-forma financial statements. Meet regularly with the vice president to review performance matrices. Oversee and work with the finance team to prepare monthly financial reports for campus services departments and establish benchmarks for budgetary review. Review analysis of staffing expenses, non-salary expense projections, and annual funding to provide an opportunity for the vice president to effectively manage individual departments. Authority to accomplish objectives within basic guidelines and policies.
  • Provide financial leadership and operational analytics to the department working closely with the associate vice president to implement the strategic goals and objectives of the department consistent with the long-term plan of campus services. This would include participation in the strategic planning for the division, overseeing the fiscal health of department across all missions, developing, and monitoring the 3-to-5-year financial plan, monitoring progress towards goals, and ensuring efficient operation of the department.
  • Identify and recommend cost saving/optimization opportunities in accordance with cost optimization initiatives for campus services. Develop data and analytical models to identify trends to improve service delivery and the customer (students and faculty and staff). Develop and implement reports, queries, and other analyses to be used in developing deliverables and financial queries. Evaluate and analyze benchmark statistics.
  • Perform and report on return on investment and/or total cost of ownership associated with capital related of operational initiatives. Communicate to appropriate stakeholders and work closely with the strategic leadership teams and Campus Services for interpretation and on-going communication plans.
  • Manage the service performance monitoring and evaluation process, including aggregating data from source systems (i.e., ERP, Jaggaer, Business Objects), collating, compiling operational metric data into key performance indicator operational reports, analyzing data to identify trends and root causes for performance issues, and summarizing findings into an executive summary. Monitor service performance and proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement through data analysis and by soliciting improvement ideas from shared services, business partners and the university community.
  • Directly supervise the campus services assistant director of Auxiliary Services. Define and assign individual tasks, maintains schedules and standards, conducts performance reviews, and administers disciplinary action.
  • Support decision-making and internal and external reporting requirements by working with stakeholders to identify information needs, selecting data sources and presentation mechanisms appropriate to tasks and audiences, and delivering clear, accurate, and informative results. In addition, will lead the preparation of regular and ad hoc reports, plans, analyses, and special projects independently and through collaborations with colleagues across the university. Extract data from various resources to perform analyses and develop statistical reporting on financial data of university financial data. Analyze trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future operating and capital expenditures.
