About The Position

The Associate Dean for Clinical Practice Operations provides operational and strategic leadership to support the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing in advancing its mission, growth, and external profile. Working closely with leaders from academic, clinical, and community sectors, this role enhances the regional and national impact of the school through creative partnerships and new program initiatives. Responsibilities include building, managing, and reinforcing relationships with external clinical sites; ensuring adherence to and timely renewal of clinical affiliation agreements, meeting accreditation standards; facilitating student placements and overseeing Integrated Memory Care and Emory Nursing Experience. Reporting to the Dean of the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, the Associate Dean for Clinical Practice Operations provides additional leadership for the school to achieve its strategic goals and is expected to work collaboratively with all other Senior Associate Deans, Associate Deans, Assistant Deans, Directors and the faculty to assure a culture of educational excellence, faculty leadership, discovery and scholarship and innovative practice. In this capacity, the Associate Dean for Clinical Practice Operations ensures that programs meet the highest standards of quality, comply with regulatory and accreditation requirements and fosters an environment where faculty and students can thrive in achieving academic excellence.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree required in accounting, finance, business administration, healthcare administration or a related field or
  • A terminal degree at the PhD, DNP, or PhD/DNP dual degree level with certification in simulation and eligible for a faculty appointment at the Associate or Full Professor (preferred) level.
  • Preferred minimum of 10 years’ experience in a combination of simulated-based learning, financial administration and business operations in university, healthcare, or education, both operational and fiscal.
  • Operational understanding of university education, its diverse constituents, and complex healthcare organizational structures. Includes a working experience/knowledge of clinical care delivery.
  • Demonstrated evidence of strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Ability to present budgets and financial strategies succinctly, clearly and in understandable terms is essential.
  • Ability to conceptualize and articulate plans and expectations internally and externally to diverse audiences.
  • A collegial, consultative management style with all to whom the position is allied while maintaining the ability to be decisive.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with the Associate Dean for Education to operationalize innovation in the transformation of academic nursing education and practice initiatives through clinical placements.
  • In partnership with Vice President for Academic Practice Integration and Partnerships facilitate the implementation and evaluation of future-oriented academic practice partnerships through clinical placements.
  • Partner with the Associate Dean of Education and the Office of Education to operationalize innovation in nursing education through clinical placement initiatives.
  • As the leader, partners with the Director of Clinical Placements in developing the Office’s strategic planning process, setting performance metrics and ensuring financial stewardship; aligning clinical activities to meet the needs of the NHWSN programs.
  • As the leader, partners with the Associate Dean for Education, Office of Academic Advancement, and the Sr. Executive Director of Clinical Instructors to develop policies and procedures around the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, professional development, and evaluation of OCCP-based Clinical Instructors
  • As the leader, serves as the liaison between the NHWSN, Associate Dean of Education, and faculty to ensure collaboration and coordination
  • As the executive leader, has oversight in meeting clinical accreditation and credentialing standards for students and clinical instructors
  • Develop processes and infrastructure to support tracking performance metrics, financial/budgetary workflow, and department policies and procedures.
  • As the executive leader, has oversight of the Assistant Dean for Simulation Education and the Simulations Operations Director and supports Society for Simulation in Healthcare accreditation, additional certifications, professional development and participation in state, national and international professional associations.
  • Pursue business development opportunities in support of simulation-based and interprofessional activities in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Simulation Education
  • Secure, maintain, and extend ENLC accreditation, in collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Simulation Education, through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and ensure ongoing compliance with accreditation standards.
  • As the executive leader, has oversight of the Assistant Dean for Simulation Education and the Simulation Operations Director and supports management of simulation administration, personnel, equipment, supplies.
  • As the executive leader, has oversight of the Sr. Assistant Dean for Administration and Operations who manage the financials and operation oversight of the Integrated Memory Care Clinic and Integrated Memory Care Community.
  • Create and implement workflow and processes for key operation functions Integrated Memory Care Clinic and Integrated Memory Care Community with responsibility for staff supervision, budget, and performance.
  • Lead projects using innovative, agile, and project management tools and techniques in the strategic development, change management, and implementation ensure the School’s ability to successfully implement a transformation agenda.
  • Pursue new partnership opportunities with regional, national, and international organizations to expand the brand recognition and facilitate nursing professional development.
  • As the executive leader, has oversight of the Sr. Assistant Dean for Administration and Operations, manage the Financials and operation oversight of the ENE
  • As the lead for the ENE, develop the strategic plan, setting performance metrics, and assuring financial solvency.
  • Survey the national landscape for trends that could lead to the development of signature programs such as the Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing Education Program (WOCNEP).
  • As the executive lead for the Emory Nursing Professional Development Center (ENPDC), work with the lead nurse planner to develop strategic planning, developing policies and procedures to align with national accreditation guidelines, setting performance metrics, and assuring financial solvency.
  • Collaborate with principal investigators and stakeholders to leverage resources that support the fulfillment of grants and program requirements.
  • Serve as the liaison between NHWSN, Emory Healthcare, and ENE to connect and align activities to ensure synergy with key initiatives and maximizing efficiencies.
  • The Associate Dean will work collaboratively with other Associate/Assistant Deans, faculty members, and administrators across the university to ensure NHWSN is successful in its mission.
  • Serves as the designee representing the NHWSN as requested for university and external audiences.
  • Contributes as a leader in the Dean's Leadership Council, providing broad collaborative leadership, intellectual vision, and guidance of the school's strategic plan.
  • Works collaboratively within the school and university to foster an environment of academic excellence, collaboration, and inclusion.
  • In collaboration with the Dean and Leadership Council, ensures the NHWSN is compliant with the University and external standard and policies.
  • Provides overall financial and strategic direction for the total budgetary and fiscal affairs of the Emory Nursing Experience (ENE) inclusive of the Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing Education Program (WOCNEP), the Emory Nursing Professional Development Center (ENPDC), and Integrated Memory Care (clinic and community), monitoring, and controlling the overall financial plans and policies.
  • Works collaboratively with the Associate Dean, Finance and Chief Business Office of the School of Nursing to project and report fiscal year-to-date financial progress of the ENE, Integrated Memory Care, WOCNEP, and all business operations.
