About The Position

Under the leadership of the Dean and Associate Dean of the Winters School of Music, this faculty position is responsible for recruiting and instructing in the applied trumpet area. The employee will teach applicable ensembles, lessons, and classes as assigned by the Dean and Associate Dean to support the growth and artistic direction of the instrumental department. This job description does not state or imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position. Requirements

  • A minimum of a master’s degree in music from a regionally accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the applied teaching area.
  • A commitment to a biblical worldview and code of conduct that exemplifies the mission of William Carey University.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clear driving history
  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer.
  • Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must have vision to read printed materials, musical scores, and a computer screen.
  • Must have hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
  • Must have the mobility to move around rehearsal spaces and music facilities.
  • Must possess the strength, agility, and mobility to routinely lift, carry, and move items up to 25 pounds.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, be able to travel to recruitment events, and maintain eligibility for the university's approved driver list to operate university vehicles.
  • Must be able to maintain office hours and perform duties in an on-campus setting.

Responsibilities

  • Actively recruit and retain students for the assigned applied trumpet studio by developing retention methods and participating in Winters School of Music recruitment strategies targeting area high schools and community colleges.
  • Teach the assigned applied trumpet studio for undergraduate students, schedule annual emphases for studio enrichment, and encourage students to compete in local, regional, and national competitions.
  • Teach other music classes and direct applicable ensembles commensurate with background and experience.
  • Assist the university in implementing the Statement of Purpose and long-range institutional plans and perform other duties as assigned by the Dean and Associate Dean of the Winters School of Music.
